Especially when it’s for one of your own tunes — in this case, Johnson’s self-penned “The Santa Boogie.” “I got a little bit tired of the same songs over and over again,” Johnson said. “I wanted something a little more my style for me and my kids to enjoy.” Actually, this is more of a “Boogie 2.0.” “I wrote an original version of this somewhere around 1999, then completely forgot about it,” Johnson said. “I just put it back together about a week ago.” As it turned out, the final result fit most of Squyres’ and Freyer’s requirements for a good Christmas song. “It’s got to have a hook,” said Squyres, the bassist. “Santa Claus has gotta be in there,” added Freyer, the guitarist. “Bells are good, too,” Squyres continued, “so we have two out of three.””
