Ryan Long & Mark Wagner 18+ $7 By Devin Taylor published: October 20 2009 11:38 PM updated:: October 25 2009 03:25 PM Darrell Van Zant, another friend of Young Life, opened up for Long and Wagner at The Square Room in Market Square Tuesday night. Although Van Zant had many fans in the crowd, Long and Wagner's performance out-shined Van Zant's opening show. The Square Room is a small venue, but is very popular among Knoxvillians. It was a perfect spot for the Long and Wagner concert because of its intimate setting. They made audience members feel like they were part of the performance and were encouraged to sing along with them. Sophomore at the University of Tennessee and a Young Life leader at Halls High School, Mandy Bolling, said this about the concert, "I felt like Ryan Long was singing right to me. You can tell he's really passionate about his music." Long and Wagner are two solo artists, but at this particular concert the two sang their songs together in a duet style. But they also got the chance to sing a couple of their songs alone the way they are usually performed. "I have been to a couple of Ryan Long's concerts before this one, but this was my favorite. I loved the way Ryan Long and Mark Wagner performed together. Their voices just flowed and sounded really well together," said Bolling. VanZant, Long and Wagner are all big parts of the Young Life community. According to the Young Life website, Young Life's mission is "Introducing adolescents to Jesus Christ and helping them grow in their faith." During the concert, Wagner freely talked about one of his other passions in life, besides music, the Mocha Club. "Mocha Club is an online community of people giving up the cost of two mochas a month - or $7 - to fund relief and development projects in Africa," according to Mocha Club's website. "After Mark Wagner talked about the Mocha Club, I just felt compelled to sign up and donate $7 a month to this organization," said Bolling. Not only was the night filled with great music by all three of the performers, great causes were promoted as well.
