Pop minifest celebrating the music of up and coming Ampang bands -Description- Mari Merosak 3.0 24th December 2011, 2pm til late. Kelab Darul Ehsan, Taman TAR, Ampang. RM5 per entry + Free Drink + Compilation CD Contact: 0123281413 (Shasha) 0176153324 (Fiona) Mari Merosak is a humble fest conceptualized to celebrate the music scene of the immediate Ampang area. This year's do' sees us taking over the nearest country club (Kelab Darul Ehsan [Power to the middle class suburban kids!]) and as usual, bringing you 2011's cream of the Bukit Indah crop. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the graduating class of 2011! The Graduating Class Of 2011: 1. The Fays (http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Fays/130043460383296) Bukit Indah's Cardigans. Female-fronted popsmiths go from breezy and summery to absurd and aggressive in just one simple chord change (read: Senyumanmu to Saddam Hussein). 2. The Strand (http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Strand/150876371610005) The Strand puts emotion and feeling in the front seat and practically runs away with it, sans mascara. Three cheers for sweet revenge (and the boys upstairs from ENEOS). 3. Roots Above Trees (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Roots-Above-Trees/129619430399645) Post-rock plus noise-pop plus possibly the best guitarist in town at the moment. Latest single Yes I Know This is equal parts Explosions and Pavement. Interested yet? 4. Kaptain (http://www.facebook.com/kaptainband) SUPREMELY catchy backing tracks with hilariously funny lyrics referencing everything from homosexuality to the national football team to skateboarding as a life/death affair to crocodiles and mousedeers. 07' style indie with a Maharaja Lawak twist. 5. School Of Prison (http://www.facebook.com/schoolofprison) Ominously looming over everybody like ectoplasm, SOP's debut release Sound From Hell quickly became a favourite, even prompting Joe Kidd to give it a favourable review, with tracks like Greed effectively conveying exactly the right kind of dread those horror punk bands strive to acheive. And hey, any punks who tip their hat to The Cramps and Graves-era Misfits are WAY cool in our books. 6. Andrea (http://www.facebook.com/AndreaBand2011) This five piece combo actually formed sometime earlier this year. Yet the impression we get upon a first listen is the sound of a band that would fit right in into the pre-boom emo scene of the early 2000s (Mineral, Hey Mercedes, Sunny Day Real Estate etc.), albeit with way poppier melodies and a very distinctive brand of Malay flair. 7. Iqbal M (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Iqbal-M/111241145569672) You'll have to PHYSICALLY SEE this dude in action. Then make up your mind about him. Nuff said. 8. The Hollows (http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Hollows/178539595506802) Combining the best of noise and pretty, crisp melodies from both sides of the Atlantic circa 1993, The Hollows hail from the same Ipoh scene that spawned Muck, Harmacy and Free Love. If that doesn't make em cool enough, then their undying devotion to Teenage Fanclub will! So if there's nothing else, I guess I'll see you at Kelab Darul Ehsan, Taman TAR, Ampang on 24th December 2011 then!
Sounds Like: Sonic Youth, The Lemonheads, Dinosaur Jr, Nirvana, The Velvet Underground
