“TUSCALOOSA, Alabama -- Doug McElvy is just trying to make connections with his music. Over the years, he has done so by playing keys in funk rock band shaglo. and doing his own roots-influenced solo shows. He has sat in with Billy Nershi and Michael Kang of String Cheese Incident as well as with Drew Emmitt from Leftover Salmon. In 2010, McElvy and friend Ben Joseph started Red Clay Revival in Tuscaloosa and took their act on the road to Colorado, playing folk, bluegrass and blues tunes. After Joseph moved to New Orleans, McElvy decided to make Red Clay Revival something on his own, carrying on the name and focusing on bluegrass. He teamed up with upright bassist Evan Dudley, a jazz studies major at UA, and recorded the band's debut album, Raw Jam. Then they set out on another tour out West this July after receiving a call from a friend to play the Rapid Grass Festival in Idaho Springs, Colo.”
