“‘Who feels it knows it.’ Preview: Pure Roots to Perform at Moe’s Alley. Santa Cruz group Pure Roots connects with some of Jamaica’s most legendary musicians”

“This Santa Cruz reggae outfit is the product of drummer/band leader Jeff Allgrove. The band has toured extensively backing reggae artist Andrew Reid, son of noted reggae singer Junior Reid. On its own, Pure Roots released a live DVD video, "Pure Roots Live in San Francisco," and completed a tour run with The Wailing Souls in the spring. The band is working on its album "Youth Rising," set for release later this year. For a taste of the band's style, check out the single "Jah The Highest" and the dub remix, "Jah The Dubbest," featuring Junior Reid.”

“On Feb. 19, 2013 Grammy-nominated roots/rock/reggae duo Israel Vibration, backed by the Roots Radics band, played to a packed house at the Independent nightclub in San Francisco, CA. Those who have been proclaiming that interest in reggae music is waning might want to reconsider. The Independent is one of the city’s trendiest venues. The fact that Israel Vibration, affectionately known to their loyal supports as I-Vibes, drew such a massive crowd on a Tuesday night, and on one of the coldest nights of the year, spoke volumes. Israel Vibration’s show kicked off with opening act Pure Roots, a seven member multi-racial, multi-generational reggae/dub ensemble from Santa Cruz, CA. Amongst the new talent showcased that night was a soulful young singer named Briana Kai, also from Santa Cruz (affectionately known as "Rasta-Cruz" in the San Francisco Bay Area), who performed n original song called “Day by Day.” Kai’s majestic voice was reminiscent of Janis Joplin and Joss Stone.”
