So you're playing the Madison Pub huh? Hope you're cool with overt racism and picking on people for having Autism because that's what these assholes are all about. I know my music deserves better, and I hope you will realize that yours does too.
Hey Rare Birds & Rosemary,
Thanks for your comment. I've never been there before and so would not have had any idea that such things happened there. No, I would not enjoy being in the type of environment you've described.
I understand that the place serves alcohol and that alcohol can have some severe affects on those who consume it, making them say things better left unsaid and do things better left undone. I do not imbibe, and find no pleasure in the effects of it, for the previously expressed reasons. Alcohol often creates more trouble than it's worth. So, I generally tend to steer clear of even performing in places which serve it. My performances tend to work best where the focus is on my music.
I had agreed to do the event because I was invited to inquire about it via a fan, who was interested in my filling in for the regular performer, who normally covers the date. The player who regularly plays there was recovering from surgery. I wanted to help and I wanted to offer my friend and fan a chance to hear what I've been up to of late. However, I developed a nasty headcold and I wasn't certain whether I would have recovered in time to play the event. So, I contacted the folks who booked me, to let them know my condition may not allow me to play. They found someone else to cover the date.
I’m Elia; I’m an artist booker at Landmark Events. I’ve come across your music page and I really enjoyed Warmongerin' Man. I’m curious to know what your current plans and projects are for your music. We have some great opportunities for independent artists in Seattle that could be beneficial to your music.
We have a show coming up on July 10th at Studio Seven, and I think you’d fit very well in the line-up. If you’d like more details about the show, please send me a quick email at firstname.lastname@example.org
Thanks and have a great day,
Hi Elia, so sorry to not get back to you sooner about that opportunity. If you checked my calendar here at RN, you would have seen that I was busy on that weekend in July, playing at the Oregon Country Fair, an annual craft/music festival/event that I've been invited to perform at for many years.
I would enjoy finding out more about that Studio Seven event and any other opportunities where I might share my talents for fair compensation. I'm am most interested in shows which feature a concert like setting. As opposed to those where I'm expected to be merely sonic wallpaper for diners or drinkers. I am interested in festival events, private parties, house concerts, theater events..., anywhere where the focus is primarily on my presentation. When my art becomes secondary to a venue's other interests, that's when I lose interest in the opportunity.
I am not as interested in shows where I am merely one of a multitude of other artists/bands sharing the same venue's stage on a given evening. Those type of events almost guaranty that the artists involved will make very little, if any, adequate compensation. Especially when the fee is divided up in a per person fashion. If I book a show with other acts involved, i expect to be offered the same fee as any other for the same amount of stage time played. Equal compensation for equal stage time is the most means of financial reimbursing artists.
I don't participate in "pay to play" scams. So, if that's the basis for contacting me about this opportunity, understand that I have better things to do with my time than to get involved with those offers. I've been offered as much as four figures for playing a European street fest. So, I'm not about to sell tickets in return for some imaginary slice of a nonexistent pie.
So, if Landmark is one of those sell tickets to compete for a chance to play a set at a local gig, where artists are virtually guaranteed to not get paid a dime in return for their efforts, save your keystrokes, because this artist ain't buying it.
Have a better day
