Tuesday night 12th and Porter was filled with talented musicians, along with their anticipating friends and fans. There was a great variety of talent and musical styles present for the night, but I was among those who were there to especially support Brian Desveaux on the Billy Block show. Wherever Brian goes he is sure to deliver a consistently excellent, yet unpredictable performance. Prior to him taking the stage, his supporters never can say for sure what songs he will be pulling from his large portfolio on any given night. This is not the first time Brian has been on the Billy Block Show and I am sure it will not be the last. Brian opened up strong with a song he co-wrote entitled "6 Am," which is a tune about forbidden love that he penned in 1997. Not surprisingly, he was successful in bringing this song back from his past songwriting collection as he received a great crowd response. He then continued with another song I particularly enjoy called "Breaking My Already Broken Heart." This creatively written song is undoubtedly relative for anyone with a track record of heartbreak. It speaks of the emotions that we go through in giving our hearts away, only to be hurt all over again. However, it contains a lighthearted fun way of approaching a very true to life situation and is sure to make listeners smile. Next up was Ray Price's timeless classic "Crazy Arms." Anyone who knows Brian can't help but appreciate when he sings a song such as this one because it truly reflects his love for traditional country music that began at an early age when his Dad introduced him to Price along with several other country legends. Brian then sang my personal favorite song "Only God Loves Like That." Not only does this song contain a very deep meaning that I personally can connect with, but he always delivers this song with a lot of feeling making it even more believable and real. With a beautiful melodic structure and unique sound, this song has "hit" written all over it. Last but certainly not least was another incredibly well written song of Brian's: "Middle Class Anarchy." This tune relevantly presents the current economic struggles we are facing as a country in a very upbeat, foot-tappin fashion. As always, Brian incorporated numerous music genres and styles into just one event. Whether he is performing one song or several, you will hear the different musical influences in his voice causing him to be one of the most well rounded artists you will ever hear. With a successfully proven history in pop/rock music, Brian has now returned to he considers to be his original musical roots: country music. However, he is singing country music with a whole new never before heard sound while maintaining true tradition in his style. This individuality is sure to continually cause him to positively stand out in Music City, and I am confident his genuine talent will take him far. As Billy Block said at the conclusion of his performance: "You think he's going to just come up here and rock out, but then he throws in fiddle and steel." My suggestion is you come see what I mean for yourself. Come catch Brian at an upcoming show and stay tuned for an upcoming article on his successful musical journey that has brought him to Nashville today. Kudos to Brian for yet another strong performance and Billy Block for hosting such an entertaining show featuring Nashville's finest talents each week. www.myspace.com/briandesveaux (music myspace) Thank You, Holly Marie Tong Songwriter & Nashville Local Music Examiner (www.examiner.com) http://www.examiner.com/x-38520-Nashville-Local-Music-Examiner (Direct link) www.myspace.com/hollymarietong 419-348-6836 hollymarielyrics@yahoo.com
