Houston’s The Apostles Rock Austin

Houston rockers The Apostles set their sights on the Austin music scene and delivered on Sunday, March 13.
Cutting their teeth in the Houston area since 2007, The Apostles have achieved local acclaim, with a nomination for best rock band (2012 Houston Press Music awards) and having shared the stage with heavy hitters such as Queensryche and Alice Cooper. A 2013 stretch with Dan Spitz of Anthrax (anarchy for Autism tour), multiple shows with Puddle of Mudd, gracing festival stages and looking forward to showing out with Trapt in April 2016, The Apostles show their tenacity and enthusiasm for sharing their brand of positive heavy music.
I caught up with the guys at Dirty Dog, Austin during an “unofficial” SXSW showcase on Sunday, March 13, 2016.
Taking the stage like seasoned professionals, the five-piece proceeded to crank out a blistering set of in your face heavy rock and metal tunes that were performed flawlessly. Bounce-worthy riffs and rhythms got the in-house crowd moving while the soulful introspective performance of their steely eyed dreadlocked front man “Qu” engaged on a deeper level.
Drawing from a range of familiar influences such as Sevendust, Godsmack, Bullet for My Valentine and many others, The Apostles fused their own originality with the mainstays of genre defining methods of riffs, hook and melody perfectly. The core of this band is formed by three brothers Justin, Jacob and Gee Rodriguez. Punchy driving percussion being provided by Jake, solid bass from Justin, and everything from riffs to leads and unique well executed backing vocals from Gee, these three dudes can rip it up all on their own. Being complimented by Gerald Lee on second guitar and the man “Qu” out front, this band has serious potential as a powerhouse on any bill.
I got a chance to hang with the fellas for a bit after the set, and all I can say is that they are the real deal… good guys in a world where the bad guys seem to have all the luck. There is an earnest quality about these fellas that really impressed me. After spending this morning listening to their 2016 released e.p, “If I Could” on Google Play Music, I must confess they have that “get stuck in your head” vibe going… in a good way.
I’m looking forward to seeing The Apostles again soon (in front of a hometown crowd), though I’m certain they will make their mark on the Austin/Central Texas area in short order.

I'm Jess J from DBBS Ent. The 5th annual "Get Money Stop Hatin" Tour is officially kicking off October 25th in Oklahoma City. We'll be in Houston November 9th at Azteca's. The last tour covered 36 cities and every show was a success. We expect this time to be even bigger & better. Past tours have been mostly Hip Hop & R&B, but we want it to be much more diverse moving forward. I’m in the process of searching for a band and a few talented artists to work with and Co-Headline this year’s tour with me. We plan on doing 50 cities between now and next summer.
If you or anybody you know wants to perform or be a part of this tour, contact my manager Tug at 818-470-9120 or email@example.com. If he don’t answer, leave a voicemail or send a text. He’ll definitely get back to you asap.
I’ve been using this tour to connect with artists, DJs, producers, promoters, promo teams, photographers, etc, in different cities all over the country. We’re definitely looking for talent to work with for big things we have planned in the future. Whatever it takes to elevate this brand to the highest possible level . We show love to everyone out here working hard, regardless of genre. We can get in the studio or whatever when I touch down. I mix, master, and produce as well.
