I remember the day I left for college. The air was just right then. The music was The Verve. I don’t remember why I had the album on, but I remember that for whatever reason, this was what was going to transition me into an undergrad. The years that followed we full of so many great things. There were girlfriends, best friends, physics, people who lived on our couch over the weekend, bad theater, good theater, lots of beer, and a soundtrack that kept it all together.

I moved to New York in June 2005, not expecting anything. I worked crappy jobs during the day and would visit clubs at night, where I got a taste of the infamous New York Indie scene. I loved it. But then the frog was put in warm water and it was not until November of 2010 that I realized something had changed. The soundtrack had stopped.

CBGB’s had closed. Other Indie clubs followed. Record stores lost their lease. Sales went online. I forgot what an album cover was. It seemed outlets for personal musical expression in New York of all places was loosing ground. I moved to New York not really knowing what to expect but also lost in the mystery of the city. Where was the romance I had heard of for so many years. Where had the artist gone?

Ok, so I missed the soundtrack. What do you do? You join the fight I think. You fight to give the artists back there theater – so there art can be experienced. We are used to thinking of music as recordings now, but in the 60’s and 70’s, it was the LIVE part that was the music. The spontaneity. The energy from the crowd. The soundtrack.

I invite you to join us. We are grabbing up the last remaining venues in New York and fighting. Fighting the corporate mindsets. Fighting the silence. Letting the music play.

The first show is at the Gramercy Theater. Join us. We will have real people, real coffee, good music, a great time. If you cannot make it this time, come next month.

Follow the movement online, or join the community. See you there.
