DIANA JONES Diana Jones is an award-winning singer-songwriter based in New York and Nashville. She grew up in the Northeast with no art or music in her home, the adopted daughter of a chemical engineer. During her childhood and adolescence, she felt an almost mystical, seemingly inexplicable attraction to rural Southern music, but it wasn’t until her late 20s, when she located her birth family in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains in east Tennessee, that her deep affinity for traditional folk and Appalachian music began to make sense.

Her 2006 recording, MY REMEMBRANCE OF YOU, earned her a nomination as Best Emerging Artist at the Folk Alliance Awards, leading to appearances at folk festivals on both sides of the Atlantic, and covers of her songs by Gretchen Peters and Joan Baez. Three more albums (Better Times Will Come, 2009; High Atmosphere 2011; and Museum of Appalachia Recordings, 2013), established Diana’s reputation as one of the premier artists in the folk music/Americana world. Diana has performed and toured with Nanci Griffith, Richard Thompson, Steve Earle, Mary Gauthier, Ralph Stanley and Janis Ian.

In addition to her musical career, Diana is an accomplished portrait artist and is currently at work on a memoir.

BOBTOWN "...a strong contender for best album of the year." -New York Music Daily

The NYC-based Bobtown’s origins go back to 2007 when they formed with a focus on contemporary, a-capella field hollers, a song form that group founder Katherine Etzel became interested in when working the corn fields of Iowa as a kid. Over several years, the band added instrumentation and their repertoire evolved to include bits of pop, bluegrass, R & B, Americana and gospel in a roots-music mash-up bound together by a continuous thread of innovative vocal harmonies. Bobtown was selected to be an Emerging Artist at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival in 2013; they were the headlining act of the Huntington Folk Festival in 2014 and will be among the featured acts at the 2015 Philadelphia Folk Festival.

Bobtown recently released their third full-length CD, A History of Ghosts, which debuted with a #1 song on the Roots Music Report's Top 50 Contemporary Folk chart. The album also spent three consecutive weeks in the #1 ranking on the Roots Music Report’s Contemporary Top 50 Folk Albums. Through the summer of 2015, A HISTORY OF GHOSTS continues to chart, garnering strong reviews internationally. Bobtown's two previous full-length CDs include their eponymous debut in 2010, and TROUBLE I WROUGHT in 2012, which enjoyed widespread radio exposure including a feature on NPR.

KEN WALDMAN, “ALASKA’S FIDDLING POET” Ken Waldman has drawn on his 25 years in Alaska to produce poems, stories, and fiddle tunes that combine into a performance uniquely his own. Nine CDs mix Appalachian-style string-band music with original poetry. Eight books include six poetry collections, a memoir, and a children's book. He's performed at some of the nation's leading concert series, festivals, universities, and clubs. Of note are: SOME FAVORITES containing tracks from Waldman's first seven CDs; and the double CD, ALL ORIGINALS, ALL TRADITIONALS, consisting of a CD of Waldman's originals alongside a second CD of he and friends playing traditional tunes set to Alaskan poetry.

Our thanks go out to MICHAEL SWANGER who recently wrote a very nice review of our CD for Des Moines' alt-weekly magazine, CITYVIEW. Someday we'll put together a summer tour going at least halfway cross-country playing mostly county and state fairs, ending with the grand dame of them all, the Iowa State Fair. Pipe in if you've got suggestions for venues/fairs on the I-80 route between New York City and Des Moines!

Cheers, -katherine & bobtown

“BOBTOWN” Independent release (December 16, 2010)

Lots of great music was born from field hollers over the years, though it is a long-lost musical tradition that exists today mostly in history books and Library of Congress recordings. That is, except for Bobtown, a quintet from New York (of all places) with a knack for reviving timeless prairie and mountain music from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Founded by Fort Dodge native Katherine Etzel, who started writing field hollers, gospel numbers, bluegrass tunes and country music in 2007 based on her experiences of walking beans and corn in her home state, Bobtown was formed in 2008. During its two short years, the group has found its voice as purveyors of traditional American music as heard on its new album which covers everything from hair-raising gospel harmonies (“Take Me Down”) and puritan folk (“My Soul”), to country-tinged ballads (“Short Life of Trouble”) and pre-war blues (“Hell and Gone”).
