The Best Way to Fight Temptation Temptation. There is no escaping it. But know this: it can help you to deepen and grow spiritually, causing you to cling that much tighter to the Lord Himself.
It's been said, "Christians are a lot like teabags. You don't know what they are made of until you put them in hot water." Perhaps you're in the "hot water" of temptation right now. God has given you a weapon to use, and it's called the Bible.
When Jesus faced His temptation in the wilderness, He gave us an example to follow, a template to apply. Being God, He could have sent Satan away or even removed Himself from the place where the enemy was. Instead, He faced Satan as a man and stood on ground that we too can occupy.
Each time Jesus was tempted, He quoted the Scripture. We read in Luke 4:12, "And Jesus answered and said to him, 'It is written, "You shall not tempt the LORD your God."'" You need to know and quote Scripture when you are tempted. The psalmist wrote, "How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word" (Psalm 119:9) and "Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You!" (Psalm 119:11).
It's good to carry a Bible in your briefcase, backpack, or purse. But the best place to carry the Word of God is in your heart! Why? Because Satan can quote Scripture to you too! Satan entices you, trips you up, and then tells you "God will not forgive you!" We pull out the Sword and reply, "It is written, 'If we confess our sin. . .' " (1 John 1:9).
Satan whispers in your ear, "You've sinned, and now God condemns you!" We can come back with, "It is written, 'There is therefore now no condemnation' " (Romans 8:1). The devil tells us, "You're not going to make it. I'll get you. You'll fall again!" You reply, "It is written, 'And I will give unto them eternal life and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand' " (John 10:28).You can also say, "Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it unto the day of Jesus Christ" (Philippians 1:6).
Perhaps when tragedy hits, the enemy will say, "Your life is over, and ruined. God has abandoned you." You come back with God's Word! It is written, "He causes all things to work together for good to those who love God" (Romans 8:28).
When a loved one dies, the enemy says, "That's it. They are gone. Death is the end!" You reply, "It is written that to be absent from this body is to be present with the Lord" (see 2 Corinthians 5:8). Jesus also said, "I am the resurrection and the life. He that believes in me, though he may die, he shall live" (John 11:25).
I encourage you to memorize and use the Word of God when being tempted. It will make all the difference.
This is a link to American Family association where you can send an email to your congressman to impeach the judge in California who is openly gay but decided to overturn the majority of Californians who do want marriage to be defined as it is clearly written in the constitution to be between one woman and one man. It only takes about 30 seconds to send a letter and its better than doing nothing at all. Be blessed, Mike
Subject: The Budget
The Washington Post babbled again today about Obama inheriting a huge deficit from Bush. Amazingly enough,..a lot of people swallow this nonsense. So once more, a short civics lesson. Budgets do not come from the White House. They come from Congress, and the party that controlled Congress since January 2007 is the Democratic Party. They controlled the budget process for FY 2008 and FY 2009, as well as FY 2010 and FY 2011. In that first year, they had to contend with George Bush, which caused them to compromise on spending, when Bush somewhat belatedly got tough on spending increases. For FY 2009 though, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid bypassed George Bush entirely, passing continuing resolutions to keep government running until Barack Obama could take office. At that time, they passed a massive omnibus spending bill to complete the FY 2009 budgets. And where was Barack Obama during this time? He was a member of the very Congress that passed all of these massive spending bills, and he signed the omnibus bill as President to complete FY 2009. Let's remember what the deficits looked like during that period(below):
If the Democrats inherited any deficit, it was the FY 2007 deficit, the last of the Republican budgets. That deficit was the lowest in five years, and the fourth straight decline in deficit spending. After that, Democrats in Congress took control of spending, and that includes Barack Obama, who voted for the budgets. If Obama inherited anything, he inherited it from himself. In a nutshell, what Obama is saying is: 'I inherited a deficit that I voted for and then I voted to expand that deficit four-fold since January 20th.'
The Tug of Heaven We are here for only a moment, visitors and strangers in the land as our ancestors were before us. Our days on earth are like a passing shadow, gone so soon without a trace. — 1 Chronicles 29:15
When we are young, we tend to think more about how God will bless us, guide us, and provide for us in this life. But as we get older, if we are smart, we also will start thinking about our future destination. If you are preparing for a trip, you probably will check the forecast for where you will be going, because you want to know how to prepare. As Christians, we are preparing for a journey, and the destination is heaven.
Deep inside us, there is a longing for a place we have never been. We are not dazzled by the world's enticements like we once were. We see these things for what they are, and they no longer have the magnetic pull they once had. But the things of God pull us even more toward Him.
This unique quality that we have inside us, this longing for heaven, is put there by God. C. S. Lewis described it as "the secret signature of each soul." It is like the little boy who, when asked how he knew his kite was still on the end of the string, replied, "I know it is there, because I can feel its pull." I know heaven is there, because I can feel its pull. And I know that one day I will be there.
The apostle Paul wrote, "Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God's right hand" (Colossians 3:1). The phrase, "set your sights," speaks of a diligent act of single-minded investigation. Another way to translate this verse is simply, "Think heaven." As Warren Wiersbe has said, "For the Christian, heaven isn't simply a destination; it's a motivation."
Is heaven your motivation today?
"If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." — 2 Chronicles 7:14
The answer to America's problems is a spiritual one. We need to pray for our country like never before. And we need to reach out to a lost world with the gospel like never before. We need more people hearing about who Jesus is and what He promises. We need to get back to the true God of the Bible, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God who sent His Son Jesus Christ to be born in the manger, to die on the cross, and to rise from the dead three days later.
If we turn to back to that God, then He promises He will bless us. But we have not been turning back to Him—we have been turning away from Him. Yet here is the promise of God in Scripture to any nation, including ours: "If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land" (2 Chronicles 7:14).
But notice to whom God directs His remarks. God didn't say, "If Congress will turn from their wicked ways," or "If Hollywood would turn from their wicked ways. . . ." Rather, God points His finger at His house. He points His finger at you. And He points it at me. He says, "If My people who are called by My name . . . " (emphasis added). There are people in the church today who are living wickedly. And God says, "If you will humble yourself and pray, and seek My face, and turn from your wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive your sin and heal your land."
That is revival. And how we need it today.
