"dear" Editor

SO...1:13am, I have been contemplating a letter to the editor of SF Reporter for a really long time now, but knowing it to be of non-positive nature, I have kept it all to myself. They say that negative comments are not constructive! At one point in time a couple of years ago, I was furious over the stupidity and ignorance of the "music critique" column and almost wrote the damn letter, but reason said DONT. I found some relief in reading a letter to the editor sent by another fellow musician (spot on Jeff Sussman), who had very similar thoughts on the column in question and more specifically on the Cretnic - hah,a new word!

Anyway, I can't help myself I have to let it out. Here it goes:

"Dear" SFR Editor! Has your mind been dulled-lulled into complacency so much that you don't care how low of a bar your staff and writers set for your publication? Have you completely lost interest in what actually makes its way onto your pages? Have you forgotten that feeling you had when you first went to college, when you were still fresh and wanted to be better and to write something meaningful, something GOOD? Or have you given up on EDITING? Any of the above would be an excuse for tolerating the verbal vomit that one Alex Devore delivers every week in your newspaper. I've checked my intentions first by talking to a few of my peers, but they all seem to agree on this - the music column and the City, and your paper, and the musicians around - they all deserve a little better. The low-level "teen-rebel-wannabe" jargon and the overuse of words like "my mom", "sucks" "blows", and a number of other uninteresting profanities don't bother me as much as the self-centered, immature, un-musical nature of their writer. Ok, we get it, Alex likes Punk! As much as he may imagine himself to be a persona of interest, it is not him we want to read about! Writing off the town's music based on the musicians' age is not only stupid, it is unacceptable. Who cares if Alex hasn't grown up and wants to stay in high-school mode forever? Fine. IF we were to divide music to young punk and old-bastard bore, then I guess guys like Mark Knopfler or Sting have no musical merit, they fall in the "old bastard" category. Devore clearly has no business being your music column writer as his knowledge and understanding of music is very limited by his own little taste. ......"it's getting late, I may have to continue in the AM. To BE Cont'd....

Blogland, here I come

To blog or not to blog?! I'm prompted to create a blog in order to get through to the next level of creating a free app for my artist page. Seems silly but I have to have both - an app and a blog to survive in this world. Don't get me started, I just might write the blog of the month! It's 12:29am and I really should not be blogging - what does blogging mean anyway? stream-of-consciousness, random, purpose-less writings that for odd reasons strike a chord with strangers who are curious about your persona and what you are thinking about? I guess I will find out - wait, I can't stop. For a first, not bad, I grade myself a B-minus. I think I prefer blogging over free-app building. blahblahblah.

This was just the test - next time I will have a MEANINGFUL blog....
