A 31-year-old man is recovering at the hospital after police said his father shot him in the backside early Thursday morning in their Orange City home.
Tina Desaussure told News 13 the shooting on Thorpe Avenue was a result of her brother, Ashton Desaussure, disrespecting their father, 62-year-old Monroe Harvey Desaussure.
She said the father and son got into an argument because an older brother wanted to move back into the house.
The 62-year-old man was against this because the older brother had a criminal record.
"He didn't want my oldest brother here," Desaussure said. "He was here and then my youngest brother was pushing my dad in the face aned stuff and that's where it took place."
Orange City police said there were obvious signs of a struggle with broken items and holes in walls inside the home.
Ashton was airlifted to Halifax Medical Center.
Police said he suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Monroe was charged with aggravated battery and aggravated assault with a firearm, according to police.
He was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail.
