Hi Folks, all of a sudden (since September) I am involved in a project called "VanLeeuwen - Jacobs".All the "Sketches videos" one finds on YouTube and ReverbNation (and that's not all of them) have been given and will be given an arrangement by Jack Jacobs, who also is a fine musician on (a.o.) guitar and bass. I, in return , played and will play my instruments on several of his own compositions. It is very refreshing for me to listen to already some finished tracks. The sound is outstanding! Will make a teaser video soon (excerpts of "Sketches" and the finished products). This means that I will be on the road with a delay of several months. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for your patience and we'll CU!
On February 29th, 2016, the VanLeeuwen Band 3 CD album Deliverance saw the light of day. It comprises the complete repertoire which is being played on stage in 2016 / 2017. At the end of 2017 we will listen to exactly the same repertoire and listen to how these compositions will be played then! (Apart from new material) Today, on request, I increased the number of videos on ReverbNation from 5 to 12. Have fun!
Hi all, here's an update for you! Number of vids on YouTube is now 37. Removed some, added some. There are 3 playlists on YouTube. The Main playlist, The Junction Road - Cadiz playlist, and The VanLeeuwen Band repetoire playlist. If you're interested, just drop me an e-mail, and I will add your e-mail address to the viewers list. VanLeeuwenMusic@Live.nl That is it for a while; now remodelling gear and finetuning repetoire. In April 2016 we ought to be up and running! I will keep you posted. See you then! As always...thanks for your support! Oh, by the way, out soon, a new album which actually completes the "Coming to Terms" album, so it simply will have the title "Coming to Terms part 2". Also, towards the end of 2016 or the latest in the 2nd Q of 2017, a threefold live album "VanLeeuwen Band live" will be out!
Hi all, here's a short update: Dec. 18th I played on a BC 12, a Yamaha YCL 450, a BC E12F, and on an Uebel clarinet. I really like the Uebel. My new secret weapon! Dec.27th I decided not to go for a so-called "Power Train" (You Tube shows plenty vids on this) but for remodelling my 1980 floor board. It's made of wood - yes, a bit heavy to carry - but it can take a lot. It already proved it had been made for on the road. A clarinet and flute stand, my old power supply and a new one, a volume pedal, my old Barcus Berry pre-amp, and the BOSS Chorus, flanger and delay as well as a reverb switch will be in there. Also a phaser, and a RC30 or DD20 and some other gadgets will be on the floor board too. Will keep you posted. There is more than enough (strictly own) material for the 2016 VanLeeuwen Band. Will keep you posted. C.U.!

The name of the account is Xenoview by the way. UPDATE II May 19th 2015: The VL Facebook account and page are temporarily closed for now. On the ReverbNation VanLeeuwen page, videos are no longer available (subscribe to YouTube), and there is a less amount of pics to be found. Getting ready for the newest developments! Best, Jos VanLeeuwen. Oeppss August 20th 2015: yet another update, number III. I recorded a new piece called The Encore; this composition is available on video along with 10 other videos of mine at ReverbNation and YouTube. Subscribe as indicated earlier in this blog and view another 35 videos! Thank you. Jos VanLeeuwen.
The Facebook accounts Jos VanLeeuwen and VanLeeuwen Band have been trimmed to such an extent that the RN Band player app is about the only thing that is still displayed on Facebook (VanLeeuwen Band page). Due to time constraints I decided to "limit" my accounts. If you like what you see and hear (Facebook VanLeeuwen Band (Band player)) you are more than welcome to still like it! That was the update; now I like to address comments I received on the "Coming to Terms" videos (15 in total; 3 vids public (Stallion/Somnambulist/So What) on FB and RN. People asked me what I do to obtain that different from usual acoustic clarinet sound. The answer is: nothing special! Whenever you listen to clarinet players on YouTube or clarinet sounds used in films (unbelievably frequent!) you hear a fantastic beautiful classical tone thanks to purely practicing on the sound during many years, and it's a help when a Eur 5K instrument with all kinds of fantastic mouthpieces is being used for that. I may have had 5 or 7 years of classical clarinet training, but since 1978 up to now I have always been playing synthesized clarinet (floorboard chorus flanger phaser waw-waw delay sound on sound etcetera. Hiding my real acoustic sound. Perfectly happy about that! When you listen to Sophisticated Insanity for instance, I can tell you that it's no exception to me to horizontally slowly close holes on the clarinet while I move my neck simultaneously to change the supply of air. Having played rather loud for many years, I discovered all kinds of extra's I could do. On the other hand, every little mistake sounds big. So, zero tolerance. When I decided to play and record those 15 vids, I played spontaneously acoustic after so many years. That's why I called the DVD "Coming to Terms". Who are you really? I can only say that the group of clarinet players I referred to earlier in this blog, have my respect and admiration. I rather live the "Rock 'n Jazz" life and a good jamsession I regard as a nice piece of a**, ready to be devoured! (meant female friendly mind you!) Alright, that's it for now. More news soon! See you!
Please find the newest updates right here on the VanLeeuwen ReverbNation site: no less than 29 videos, including the VanLeeuwen Store and VanLeeuwen Shop videos, next to 20 audio tracks. Check the Catalogue and Shop vids for prices, but just as importantly do browse around and check out the complete site (too many pics) and have fun with it!!! As always: THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!!
A new double DVD (data) called Coming to Terms. VanLeeuwen playing acoustically. A spontaneous happening, playing VanLeeuwen tracks on an old and partly damaged clarinet, but having fun! Also, another release called VanLeeuwen on The Net will be out soon (next week halfways September 2014); it's an E-Book composed of a lot of Internet material on Jos van Leeuwen and also comes with a few audio and visual files. It's free of charge, provided one picks a minimum of 3 albums from the Catalogue.
Most of you may know that after my classical clarinet training I switched to the electronic / synthesized clarinet, blasting guitarists off stage in my younger years (only if they asked for it). Decades further up on the road I realized some months ago that I never actually had paid any attention to the natural sound of the instrument. There had been no need to. A wonderful classic timbre, a technically perfect staccato tongue? I was busy doing other things on that clarinet! The VanLeeuwen Band 2014 - 2015 is now a fact, but prior to that I decided to pick up an old and partly "broken" clarinet - to make things even more difficult - and play acoustically. One afternoon (April 15 2014), and on May 4 and June 4 2014, I decided to videotape my efforts. No lightshow, no electronics, no stage, just a bedroom wall, me and my old instrument. That clarinet is in the garbage now, and I'm busy with new equipment, directing the new VLB. So, here's the link, and If you watch and listen to that playlist, feel free to smile and think "WTF?". That's exactly what it is intended for: Fun! Naturally, for the real thing, stay tuned right here on ReverbNation.com/VanLeeuwen. OK, here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7F3z8dZaZxo&list=PLpthKyYXyaA3QlBItM9L0TVNkeDcA_q7R Update: 2 DVD album (100 minutes) called: Coming to Terms (Acoustic) has all these videos for the collectors! See Album section. Production on request! Update number 2: Video called: The Store part III.
Hi everyone, first of all a sincere “thank you” for your continued support! This newest blog functions as an update (meaning some info will be deleted) for VanLeeuwen albums that can be bought by writing an e-mail to email@example.com and by using PayPal. Prices are in EUR (I’ll be happy to inform you of the equivalent for other currencies); please see the VanLeeuwen Catalogue on the front page. The bio has also been updated today. Some referrals to previous websites were also deleted. Second quarter of 2014 a new VanLeeuwen Band line-up will see the light of day. A warm “thank you” to all people who made previous line-ups etc possible! The new line-up will exist of drums, bass guitar, keyboards, and (myself) synthesized clarinet (main instrument) and flute (second instrument). I will no longer play tenor saxophone live on stage anymore. For special occasions I will invite tenor saxophone players to fulfill a guest role! Don’t worry, I can make a synthesized clarinet sound like a tenor saxophone! I also said goodbye (finally) to the Roland RE-501; I’m all “taped out” so to speak. Discovered some good alternatives for the Sound on Sound aspect. OK, enough said; come and see us in 2014! (Dates will be on the VL RN page.) Albums: The Last Breath & Live at The Hague (1 CDROM & 1 DVD) (2008) (doc on VL / Junction Road Band live) / Unexpected Expectations (3 CDs) (2008) (Sessions) / OU12CYIM2B4U (5 CDs) (2008) (Junction Road Band / Cadiz) / The Canadian Adventure (3 CDs) (2009) (Xenomania) / Live at The Hague (2 CDs) (2009) (Junction Road Band live) / 2 Hours of 2 Millenniums (2 CDs) (2011) (VanLeeuwen Solo / VanLeeuwen Band) / TINCA (1 CD) (2011) (Xenomania) / Absolutely Definitely Live!!
