Steph Johnson / Blog

I hope that this message finds you well, content, peaceful and thriving...I have been busy soaking up as much Jazz guitar as I can get my hands on. The gigs/shows are starting to fill up my calendar and I am so excited to be trying out all this stuff I've been learning! :0) One of the most exciting things to have happened in my life lately is the BIRTH of my 3rd album "When I Fell in Love" - 12 songs that reflect this period in my life - a time in which nothing else seems to matter except the time I spend with my guitar. On and off stage, I am finding my true voice. My soul is so happy. :0) There's no turning back....I have fallen in love for life. Last weekend I headed into the studio to record the album with the help of talented and accomplished upright bass player, Rob Thorsen and percussion phenomenon, Fernando Gomez. I am delighted to say...that it went great and I can't believe we got the bulk of the record completed in just 2 days! Big thanks to our engineer Chris Hobson who understood the vibe and helped us to capture the music in a LIVE setting! We have another day scheduled for some vocal overdubs and guitar solos, and then a few more days for mixing and mastering...and then of course album artwork, duplication and promotion - this is where YOU come in.. The cost of creating this album will run approximately $7000 - this is a drop in the bucket for some but for little old me (an independent artist and full time musician) I am in need of funding. I am reaching out to my supporters, family and friends and asking for your help in bringing this album to life. I BELIEVE IN THIS PROJECT and feel that it showcases my vocals and guitar playing better than any other to date. My dream is that this recording will bring me to new audiences world wide. If you would like to contribute, please visit my website www.stephjohnsonband.com …there you will find the link to donate on the right hand side of the website. Or you can copy and paste this link: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=B4BYS47LA2J2G For every donation that is $20 or more - you will receive a copy of the album before anyone else via digital release, plus you will receive a signed hard copy from me! I figured out that if 350 people were to donate $20 each, I could meet my goal! I warmly welcome your support and love in the form of donation more than you know. If you cannot support financially, just you reading this and sharing in my excitement is a true blessing and a gift in itself.

All my love! Steph Johnson

We won a SDMA for Best Jazz Album...then my car was stolen!

What a great past couple of weeks! Sunday, September 12th we headed to Humphrey's on the Bay for the 20th annual San Diego Music Awards. I was surrounded by my friends and family, what a blessing! I am so grateful to everyone who voted for us and for my 2nd album, Mysterious Feminine. Thanks to the San Diego Music Foundation, Kevin Hellman and to all of YOU! :) I was overwhelmed with the beautiful messages that I received from everyone! Thank YOU for all of your awesome comments online! I must admit, being nominated so many years in a row - and NOT winning in the past - made me feel a little like Susan Lucci. ;-) BIG thanks to Temptress in Ocean Beach, CA for styling me in the hottest 'Stop Staring' dress! Make sure to visit this awesome pin-up couture shop right here in San Diego! If you'd like to see the acceptance speech (and the hot dress in action) vist this link: http://www.justin.tv/scheffxp/b/270001435

This past weekend we performed at Artwalk on the Bay - what a lovely weekend! We performed both days and Saturday night we also performed at a house concert in Cardiff. Great people, great time.....sometime between when I got home Saturday night and woke up Sunday morning, my car was stolen. :(

Thankfully, my car was returned - gutted, but returned. :) I did however lose approximately $4500 worth of gear (amps, cables, mics) and most devastatingly, an entire case of my recently winning album. :( We leave on tour for our Midwest dates in just a few weeks and this loss has set us back. So I am asking for your help.

The awesome bank that I used to work for has graciously opened a "Steph Johnson Relief Fund" account to help me replace the cds that were stolen, as well as the amps that are necessary for us to continue to perform. If you are able, even if it is $5 - every amount will help us. I know that I am not alone when it comes to being the victim of theft - and I know that some of you may currently be in a worse off financial situation - please do not send anything but your love and prayers and I'll do the same for you. :)

If you are able, please mail donations to:

California Bank and Trust "Steph Johnson Relief Fund" 135 Saxony Rd Encinitas Ca 92024

This life is so beautiful and I know that I am not handed anything that I can't handle! I have faith that everything will work out and nothing can take my peace and happiness. :) This past Sunday night, after our on air radio interview on 94.9FM/San Diego, I found myself dancing and laughing at my local grocery store - just like any other night! :) Please feel free to share this video with anyone who you think may enjoy it - I hope that it makes you smile and feel your own joy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieEWG7bjUuQ

Next show in town is at the Museum of Making Music in Carlsbad, Ca. FREE Stone Brewery beer and Flippin' Pizza to those who join us October 1st at 7pm. Limited seating, PLEASE get your tickets soon if you would like to come. :) http://www.museumofmakingmusic.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=343&Itemid=3

Many blessings and love to you all! Steph

Agape - Unconditional Love

Hello and greetings to you! =) This is my first blog and I am excited to start this today after a WONDERFUL experience at the Agape Spiritual Center up in LA. If you have never been -and you love music, people, God, lots of colors ;-), meditating, etc...you may dig it like I did. =) I have been invited to come and audition for one of their services. If I am accepted, they will let me perform with them! I will let you know what happens with that...

This week, I have a couple shows: Thursday June 3 at Leaping Lotus in Solana Beach from 5:30 to 8:30. We are going to play some originals and my favorite covers =) I believe they do something up and down the street...sort of an outdoor "walk around and look at stuff" kind of time. =) I just love those.

And Friday is a very special night, in which I will be performing along with two of my great friends (and very talented young women) Julia Jordan and Flying Laura! The three of us decided to put on a show together at Studio 4B - a private art/dance/music studio right here in Encinitas. Space is limited so if you would like to come and be a part of what will be a special celebration of uplifting music, art and dance - please email me at stephjohnsonband@gmail.com Event starts at 8pm and goes until 11ish. All ages ($10 suggested donation).

In other news around the globe - I just can't believe my eyes when I look at all that oil being pumped into the Gulf of Mexico. Makes me feel sick inside. I have been watching a live feed on cnn.com which I strongly suggest you go and check out.....I am on the look out for volunteering opportunities or organizations that will help mend the destruction that this oil leak is causing. If anyone finds out of anything, please let me know, and I will share with everyone I know.

Recent meetings with special individuals, messages from creator, love and summer in the air, makes me feel so blessed to just be. To live in such a peaceful community of creativity, health and awareness is a gift that I am soaking in all day, everyday. I hope that this blog finds you full of joy and complete happiness! =)

Thank you for reading, coming to shows, listening to my music, buying my music, supporting art and creativity.

She lives within all of us...

Peace and blessings, Steph Johnson
