LokoPelli | Neil Wright / Blog

How do these people find me? A true story (and a glimpse into my mind)...

Ok, so I got a call at 7:20 Friday morning after my Thursday night gig - woke me up. “Is this Neil Wright?” Mmm, yeah… (Did the IRS finally catch on?) "Are you the Neil Wright doing a Christmas concert in the park tonight?”. Uhhh... yeeaaahhhh… I replied hesitantly. (Thinking of armed men in Santa suits storming the barn at Gring’s Mill) "Well I want you to play a Billy Joel tune tonight and dedicate it to my lady at the show." Uh, it's like, totally a CHRISTMAS show dude, you know? (One of the Santas has a large dark scar on his cheek) "Yeah, but I really LOVE this lady and she loves Billy Joel!" Well uh, I guess if it's for love, we'd better do it… (Santa is pulling an AK-47 out of his pack) “I don’t know what time we’ll be there but I’ll waive my hat in the air to let you know when we’re ready.” Ya… right… okay… (Santa bursts out of the barn’s chimney and begins firing at the stage) “We’ll see you tonight then!” Sure thing, bro’! (I wonder if a Kevlar kayak paddle can deflect bullets…) He DID show, in the first set. I knew right away, because he took a seat in the third row and waived his hat back and forth in the air. People near him suddenly began to look nervous. His shoulders were bigger than mine... (Was that a Kalashnikov bolt carrier or sleigh bells I just heard?) I performed “Just The Way You Are” with heretofore unprecedented enthusiasm (and brevity). The audience was slightly confused, but seemed pleased with the dedication. It was for LOVE, after all. I quickly moved along into a beautiful (and hushed) Native American Flute feature. (During which I would be able to hear heavy footsteps approaching and get a running start if necessary) After the set, he came up and shook my hand heartily. There were no large dark scars anywhere on his face. His lady was so pleased she said that she would like to hire the band for her birthday party in April. Synchronicity at work, folks… April though… hmmm… Armed Easter bunnies... I wonder…
