Concrete Rhino / Blog

The Origins...

There will eventually be several bodies of work contained here.

1) Destination: The first band that I was in, and also where/when I learned to play bass. This took place between 1983 and 1986.

2) Flying Rhino Theory: This was a couple of guys I went to church with in the Bay Area. We primarily backed up our high school choir, and then spent a lot of time jamming. There are a couple of surviving tapes of us. Hopefully now that the third member is back in the Bay Area, we can lay down some new tracks. This was roughly 1986-1988.

3) Concrete Rhino: This was me, myself, and I. Experimenting with MIDI sequencing in the 1992-1994 time frame. I've managed to locate a few original tapes, but can't find the best stuff. Sometime...hopefully I'll dig up the sequences and re-instrument them.

I have to credit Troy for a majority of the "Rhino" focus. While I had always liked them, he's the one who got me interested in Adrian Belew's music, in particular "Lone Rhinoceros".

The "Flying Rhino Theory" name came from that, and seeing a Far Side cartoon with a scientist testing his theory that rhinos can fly. Hence, Flying Rhino Theory.
