MAUD IN CAHOOTS - BIO / PRESS 2015

"Undisputedly one of the finest unsigned acts in the country. We recommend getting on this particular bandwagon early. If they become as big as they deserve to, you may soon struggle to get tickets.... - Hot Press Magazine

Maud in Cahoots is Dublin sisters Maud and Zoe Ní Riordáin, Stephen Markham and Alan Connon.

Combining luscious chamber-pop arrangements with melancholy melodies worthy of the most lovelorn of Scandinavian chanteuses, Maud in Cahoots occupy a point on the alternative music epicentre. In September 2014 the band presented a music theatre piece at The Abbey theatre as part of the Tiger Dublin Fringe Festival. The Well Rested Terrorist was a unique piece of musical theatre, placing a live band in the context of a theatre that showed that this band aren’t afraid to do things differently. Maud in Cahoots released their single Greatest Achievement in April 2015 and another single, Cure for the Crazy in late September.

With trips to New York, Canadian Music Week, and festival performances all over Ireland this year the band have had an exciting 2015 with next year shaping up to be even busier.

"Break out your calendars, gig-goers of Dublin, and mark in the date of the next Maud in Cahoots show in your diary. If you like to dance, if you like music, you’ll scarcely find a better act" – Goldenplec.com

PRESS: “One of the best sets of the weekend ( Electric Picnic ) was Maud in Cahoots…..It’s been fascinating to watch that band grow, develop and morph into something truly captivating with bags of star quality.” Una Mullally, Irish Times.

“The festival can also work as a stage for acts to re-introduce or unveil a new aspect in their sound. Alternative-pop band Maud In Cahoots were a perfect example of this side to the HWCH experience. As captivating and uncompromising as ever, the group’s show worked to highlight how they have continued to perfect and sculpt their music over the year. More thematic, theatrical and tinged in indie characteristics Maud In Cahoots gave an intriguing indication of how they have evolved in terms of sound.” – The Last Mixed Tape Blog.

“Ní Ríordán strikes a commanding figure as she sways in time with the music. Not only is her voice transfixing, but her powerful stage presence make it impossible to avert your eyes.” Goldenplec.com HWCH 2015 review

****“Maud Ní Riordáin is a striking, controlled presence with a pristine voice...Maud in Cahoots present a ‘live concept album’ ..always absorbing; a painstaking work, given startling execution.” Peter Crawley, Irish Times.

“If Beyoncé patented the "visual album," then leave it to Irish alt-pop ensemble Maud in Cahoots to pioneer the "live concept album". Inspired by the phenomenon described by neurologist Oliver Sacks in his book Musicophilia, The Well Rested Terrorist casts an eye over the varying effects that music has on the human psyche. Featuring nine new songs composed by Maud in Cahoots, this piece stars the captivating Maud in Cahoots and Rory Fleck-Byrne as two subjects that can only communicate via the medium of music and explores just what music can do a person. Noteworthy for being the first Fringe show staged in The Abbey, the show places the band in a live context that isn't merely a gig in a pub. The result is a wholly unique meditation on infamy, fear and coming to terms with being yourself.” Le Cool Dublin

“The Well Rested Terrorist reminds you why albums are things to savour and digest” Una Mullally, Irish Times

MAUD IN CAHOOTS' LONDON MOVE

Hey, it's been a little while and haven't written here in a long time so thought I'd update you all on what's going on with MiC.

So we had a busy 2010, things went well for us and we finished off the year supporting Snow Patrol on Arthur's Day, releasing our first single PUSH ME UNDER with Universal and doing loads of gigs in Ireland after having been away from home for so long.

Then everything changed and a move to London was suddenly on the cards, freaked me out a little I have to admit cos I don't think I was ready to leave New York but with the support from the Snow Patrol team based mainly in London the move here made sense. It's been a crazy few months since we moved here in January. With yet another relocation it has meant Zoe and I have had to find yet another Band. Tuba players aren't easy to find!

We found a great rehearsal space in Bethnal Green, called The Empire - http://www.theempirelondon.com/ It's a deadly little hub with the likes of the Arctic Monkeys, The Klaxons and Noah and the Whale buzzin' about. Not bad company to keep! Zoe and I have been working on new material and improving old tunes and enjoying this time to develop the music and make sure our debut EP/ Album blows you all away!

We have just recently got a band together here in London, in fact our first full band rehearsal will be this weekend so we'll let you know how that goes. Thinking about bringing electric bass into the mix...what you reckon? We'll be demoing the tunes we are considering for the EP towards the end of April and sending them out to producers we'd like to work with and hope to have an EP ready for a summer release.

In the meantime we are finally getting back to doing some live shows, Zoe and I went back to NYC a couple of weeks ago for a show in the Mercury Lounge with The Coronas, The Mighty Stef and Colin Devlin. It was a crazy night, The Mighty Stef went to Zoe's head and she started smashin bottles of vodka on the dance floor. I told her we couldn't afford that kind of rock n roll behaviour..well not yet anyway! We will be back in Ireland again over Easter, we play the BARN DANCE in Kildare on Good Friday and then it's back to London for our first gig here on the 26th in the GARAGE, Islington.

So, that's basically what's been going on in MiC land. We've been off the radar for a while but we'll be back with a bang in the summer. Once we have this record ready to go we'll be gigging every day if we can. Launches for the EP are planned for London, Dublin and NYC! Exciting times.

Hope you are all happy and healthy!

Love always,

MiC xxx
