The Old Ground / Blog

Here I am and there you are

Hello all, it's david here, just wanted to start this out by saying it is about time that I got more pro-active about spreading the word on The Old Ground. Let me introduce myself. My name is David Pitzel and I am the last surviving member of The Old Ground. Previously I was in Still Life. You know when you type in EMO on the internet and you get a picture of a guy with a huge mouth screaming? Well that's me, and aparently that's EMO. So yeah I played bass and sang half the songs for Still Life and I also provided the large mouth. Anyhow after Still Life died Paul and I created The Old Ground. The band or as it has become the project has been around for almost 4 years I think. Originaly Paul and I were looking for a musical outlet but our equipment had been stolen so we had nothing but a couple accoustic guitars. I was no longer playing bass since I didn't have one and I just got laid off so I had a ton of time to make up new songs. Originaly Paul had a few songs in the mix but later decided he wanted to focus on the songs I was writing since I was pumping them out so fast. We recruted some other members and started playing some shows. Paul was going to school and was pretty busy with that so he later decided to leave the band. Kupper our bass player left a while after that to focus full time on his baby. After that Aaron our drummer and I tried to keep it alive by recruting Chris from Still Life on the bass. That was cool for awhile but it eventually fizzled out. So here I am all by my lonesome, I just finished recording 14 songs in my garage in Reseda Ca. It sounds pretty good in my opinion especially when you consider it was recorded in a garage by one guy who really doesn't know how to be a studio engineer. I will have the details on when it will be available when it gets all hammered out. In the end I just really wanted to put the songs out into the world and see if anyone likes it. I can't seem to stop myself from making music no matter how hard I try and my wife seems to think people should have a chance to hear it. So there you go hopefully it will make someone smile... david-
