The Mill Casino Hotel in North Bend, Oregon, hosted the event and showcased five other acts who won their local and state competitions.

Before advancing, Matt won his local competition sponsored by KIWX Highway Country of Las Vegas, NV, and the Arizona / Nevada State Final. More than 50, 000 persons compete in the annual competition.

Although this was essentially his first time competing, the 18-year-old singer / songwriter has spent years honing his craft. Coming from a musical family, he has also seen his cousin, Scott Reeves (of country duo Blue County ) excel musically with the single "Good Little Girls". Matt has a recording studio and produces his material as well as others. When he's not recording, you'll find him on stage at places like The Wet Barbeque in Fayetteville, AR, and the Maverick in Pahrump, NV. Performing two original pieces - "The Ballad of Gypsy Rose "and "Long-Haired, Hot-Blooded, Redneck, Honkytonk Cowboy" - in Saturday's competition, he displayed his vocal and songwriting abilities.

As one of the five regional winners from across the country Matt will compete for $ 100, 000 and the coveted National Title of Best New Act in Country Music at the worldfamous Ryman Auditorium. The National Final will air nationwide over syndicated television in March and April.
