New CD Project - My Heroes Have Always Been Singers

After 8 years it is time for me to go into the studio and record another CD. The first three, for those of you that have them, were so much fun to arrange and record. It is always fun to explore, find and share new songs and old favorites with all of you, my fans. With that said, we’re getting ready to get into the studio to record and so have decided to team up with FeedTheMuse.net. Feed The Muse is a great website that lets fans show their support for artists by really supporting them. I'm hoping we can raise enough to fund the cost of recording, mixing, mastering, paying for mechanical licensing and manufacturing. And so I'm reaching out to you, my fans, to help me make that happen. Fan funding seems to be the new way that unsigned artists can record and put their music out there to their fans. The gist of it is that I pre-sell the CD to produce the project. The project is called "My Heroes Have Always Been Singers" and it is my ever grateful nod to some of the vocalists who have inspired me to push myself and move forward as a jazz vocalist - Billie Holiday, Nancy Wilson, Carmen McRae, Dinah Washington, Eliani Elias and more. There will also be a couple of songs that I have written lyrics to - Miles Davis' "Nardis" and John Lewis' "Afternoon in Paris".

Any amount, no matter how small will help, but I have three levels that will help me fund my project and get you some perks - $20 buys the CD and once done will come to you signed and packaged. $50-100 gets you the signed CD along with links to videos that will be done in the studio of our sessions. (these will be sent to you via email during the time we are working on the project) $200 gets you the signed CD/links to videos and the thirty contributors at this level will also get a catered dinner CD release show at a place to be determined in Sacramento once the CD is ready for release.

Go to http://www.feedthemuse.net and see what they are all about. Then go to my profile page at http://www.feedthemuse.net/vivianlee to make your donation/purchase of the CD. Thank you so much for helping me to fund and record this new CD.

The Jazz Cruise 2012

Well good morning everyone, This is my first attempt at blogging so please be kind and patient as I muddle my way through this. I had the great fortune to go on the 2012 Jazz Cruise that is produced and planned by Entertainment Cruise Productions, a company that was started by a very innovative woman named Anita Berry. Her sons now run things for her and they are very good at what they do. Imagine being on a ship for seven days with the likes of the Freddy Cole Quartet, The Clayton Brothers Quintet, Jimmy Heath, Houston Person, Wycliffe Gordon, Carmen Bradford, Jeff Hamilton Trio, Kurt Elling and so many more. This was heaven. To sit in a room listening to Kurt Elling sing John Hendrick's Soul Food, or to hear John Clayton make us laugh with Walking the Bass, five flutes - two alto flutes and three C flutes - paying homage to Benny Golson with his signature tune Killer Joe.

I met people who I hope will be lifelong friends from this trip forward. Dottie, a woman from New York who plays a mean jazz flute, Carl, a great jazz violinist, Wayne, a cardiologist from Los Angelos who plays flugelhorn, and of course my "roommate" Genia, who I met for the first time when she stepped into the stateroom that we shared. We both were adventurous and needed a cabinmate to make this trip work (single staterooms are kind of pricey) We "met" over the phone months ago when the cruise put us in touch with each other, talked a few times over the next six months and met when we checked in on Sunday the 29th. She showed me the ropes of navigating the many venues on the ship and we had a ball. I think that she will be one of those "lifelong friends" I talked about.

I have already hit that button to go on next year's cruise which has added Karen Allison and Arturo Sandoval to the list of bands.

So in a small nutshell, that was my vacation of a lifetime.
