Alive in China

Hello friends, I'm still alive and kicking here in Shunde, China. Sorry I haven't written in quite some time. I've definitely been keeping busy teaching English and Voice, writing TONS of new songs, and playing some fun shows. I even sang a song in Chinese, along with some of my originals, at a really legit concert that my Chinese singer-songwriter friend Anki hosted. This was a huge event with over 20 performers, video crew, and it even got news coverage in town. I WAS ON THE NEWS IN CHINA.... whaaat?! So strange... I have now made the news twice, the radio once, and I've currently made it into the top 24 in The Voice of Shunde competition that I tried out for recently. I guess you could say I'm a minor celebrity in some circles. Hilarious!

ONLINE SKYPE VOICE LESSONS - I've also started teaching Skype Voice Lessons to some Arizona students, so if you're interested you can click on the "Vocal Coach" tab on www.reeboado.com to find out more. It's been great to work with some of my old students!

Got some new pics up, thanks to the talented Alex Ventrone. I think it's about time I match my new red-headed self with my website! I'm actually trying hard to grow out my roots and it appears that my natural color is now some sort of dishwater blonde.. we'll see how long I can tolerate it. You know I love color!

In the last few months, I've made a decision to buckle down and work harder on honing my songwriting skills and increase my pursuit of becoming a songwriter for a living. This scares me to death in some ways, and a lot of self doubt creeps in. But I have to say I have been quite proud of myself at sticking to my daily schedule I created, including all tasks along with disciplined space for songwriting. I've always leaned more to the side of inspiration over discipline, but I am learning that you absolutely have to schedule disciplined time to make room for inspiration or you will never become a more prolific writer. It is truly working and I've been cranking out more songs than ever before. And they're better and better I think! Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers as I work harder than ever to make connections and pursue songwriting as a career. My heart is more alive now than ever before!

Adios for now!

Zia Records "You Heard Us Back When, Vol.8"

Just found out that my song "Children of This Light" was chosen by Zia Records, out of many submissions from Phoenix, Tucson, and Las Vegas, to be on their "You Heard Us Back When, Vol.8" compilation album. It will be sold on Record Store Day only, April 19th if you'd like a copy. It's only $3 and all proceeds go to charity. I recorded this song for the documentary I was in, titled "Children of This Light", that premieres this summer. Special thanks to my 11 year old voice student Myrna, for singing in Spanish on the end of the song. Can't wait for you all to hear it!

In the Studio & The Documentary

Hi friends! I'm currently in the studio working on my new album, Out of the Mouth of Caves, and things are going great! We just added percussion and drums and it has really added a unique feel to the songs. Thanks Tim Rahman! It has the vibe of Bon Iver and Feist in some ways, but with a Ree Boado familiarity still there. I'm really looking forward to sharing it with you all!

I'm also tracking a couple songs for the documentary I was in in Mexico City, Children of This Light, which is set to be released end of March or April 2014. One song in particular was inspired directly by my interactions with the people I met on the streets of Mexico. They really touched me in a way I can't forget. I will keep you all posted as to where you can view the film once it comes out.

Dearspeak is on hiatus and unsure if we will return as a band, though I am daydreaming about some collaborations and potential new endeavors. We shall see!

Thanks for all your support all these years in different bands and with my solo work! ~Ree

Documentary in Mexico City

Dec.4, 2013 In two days, I will embark on a journey to a foreign land, by myself, to experience many things I've never experienced before. I've been asked to be a part of a documentary that aims to shed light on the situation of children on the streets in Mexico City. We will be visiting the kids there and my role will be somewhat of a spokesperson, describing to the viewers what I see and experience. They will also be using some of my songs for the soundtrack and have even titled the film "Children of This Light" after one of my songs. Pretty cool.

I have been in much thought and prayer about this whole thing, and my hope is to simply love on those I meet and to offer them hope. Hope that they matter to someone. Hope that there is help in this world, not only suffering and abuse. And hope for a better situation than what they currently have. I have not always felt hope in my life, and have many times related more with despair. Being a human being on this earth is not always easy and there is suffering and abuse all around us. But may God help me to have hope and love for others, and through this, may my hope grow even more in the areas I need to and want to see hope in. This Thanksgiving Day brought a massive amount of joy into my life, as there was some huge reconciliation within my family. Kind of a big deal. Kind of something that unexpectedly flooded my heart with HOPE. So perhaps this prayer has already been answered. And that gives me even more hope!! :o)

Settling In

Yes, we are still alive. Still playing music. Still writing music. Still planning on playing shows sometime soon! The guys just got married in the last few months and are adjusting to all the change and enjoying the newness of life. I (Ree) have been working on recording home demos and working with a friend/engineer to get a full length album together in the next 6 months or so, and can't wait to get these new songs to you guys! I'm also gearing up to be filmed in a documentary in Mexico in which they'll be using some of my songs for. Exciting and new things are happening, so we'll try to be better about keeping you all posted.

Much love, Ree, Justan, and Matt

Back in the 602!

Feels good to be back in the 602!

I was fortunate enough to enjoy some much cooler weather over a 30 day period, touring through Utah, Idaho, Montana, Washington, British Columbia, Oregon, and California. Played a bunch of fun and diverse shows, got to see the beautiful countryside and met some incredible and strange people along the way. Ha.. makes for some fun stories... and maybe songs one day. :) Thanks to all the kind people who let us crash their homes!

Heading back into the studio in the next couple days to finish more songs to complete my debut, full length album, Pretty Little Flies, expected to be released in September. I'm shooting for an October cd release show, I'll keep you posted!

Much love, Ree
