HIS ENGLAND THAT WAS http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_3078980 This song was done on New Years Eve 2008 completely under the influence. It stayed on the computer for weeks and weeks until one day i discovered it.I played it back and i was amazed how it turned out under the circumstances. The day i played this back was a cold and frosty one early in the morning and i was staring out of the window looking at all our plants and all the trees covered in frost,it was quite a beautiful scene.Winter can be so awe inspiring especially after a fresh fall of snow.So i go to thinking what a beautiful country we live in and at certain times of the year. The more extreme the weather be it a boiling hot Summer's day or deep in the middle of winter after snow or a heavy frost where everything looks clean and sanitised thats when its at its best. After a while the frost started to melt and we had that Winter Sun come out and thats when the title came to me.'That was a beautiful scene' lead to 'This England That Was.'
AN ENDLESS NIGHT http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_5504427 To me this song is insomnia personified.I woke up one morning at 4.30am and it was on one of my days off.I was tired but couldnt get back to sleep som i decided to get up and do a song.Because of my state of mind this song came out of it.Its a very dark and quite sinister song to me,a bit like my mood that particular morning!
FATMOUSE http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_4159505 This is just s great funky, dancey track that doesnt need too much thinking about.Iver had the character 'Fatmouse' in my head for a while,a very anti hero,ex drunken cop type of character. This song has a great percussion track and you dont have to sit down and listen to it just let it go and go.
MARLBOROUGH DOWNS http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_4229106 This is named after the area where some of the stones that make up Stonehenge and Avebury Circle came from.Avebury and the surrounding are is a very mystical and quite a powerful place. It happens to be one of my favourite locations to stay in the UK.Its a very inspiring place in so many ways.
THE UNDERACHIEVING PIONEER http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_3222031 This is another track that was constructed after 1 or 2 glasses of the old Rouge. It was also put together on the same New Years Eve as 'This England That Was',and just like that song, was completely forgotten about until some weeks later. This song was and still is one of the most songs played at http://www.reverbnation.com/jerichosiren Its got a hip hop backing track slowed down a tad.Ive absolutely no idea where the title came from as it was named the night it was composed so we'll never know.
As i add new tracks to the site i shall explain its title.I usually do new stuff once every 3 months or so or whenever i get time inbetween work and real world living! by Jericho Siren at 10:18 am
OUTER STELLAR http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_8269651 This was inspired by watching Prof.Brian Cox in a documentary. He was talking about Interstellar travel and during the commercial break i was wondering if Outer Stellar was actually a proper scientific term, apparently it is which was quite dissapointing but i went with it anyway.
BRANCH DAVIDIAN BLUES http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_7662649 Another song title inspired by the sound. It has that 'mid west US' sound to it to me.I had been listening to Machine Head's Davidian a few days before and i had been reading about the massacre at Waco, pretty powerful stuff. So the title came to me almost straight away.
DELHURST ROAD http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_7604282 This is the road where i spent the happiest time of my childhood. Its in Great Barr in Birmingham.I played the song back a few times and it sounds very light hearted and uplifting and my mind immediatley went back to those days.
ROBOMANTIX http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_5070891 A very sad sounding song which sounds like something straight out of the 80s.I wanted to use something very 80s in the title.I started thinking about Kraftwerk,John Foxx and Tangerine Dream and the robotic approach to electronic music composition. Its basically a combination of robot and romantics.
1984 http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_4642043 Even though this track is quite 'funky' it appears to me to have a military sound going on underneath all the percussion and noises. The book that epitomises militaristic and totalitarian to me is 1984.Once again hilighting having something very steady and over bearing (the beat) underneath chaos. No matter how 'off the wall' things get, there will still be something under it to keep it in line.
THE CLONE ENGINE http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_6771232 This track has a 'machine' like riff running through it.The usual machine references and cliches in electronic music have been used over the years so i thought id try something else.I love the word Engine and its been used a few times in my compositions so i thought id go with that again. The Clone bit came from watching an episode of Thye Simpsons when Homer gets cloned over and over again.

Oct 20 Explaining Strange Song Titles. http://www.reverbnation.com/artist/artist_songs/466188 THE SAXON CLEARWATER PROPHECY.http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_9235898 This was another title plucked from 'Origins of Words & Phrases'.
AN INDEX HATCHET JAM http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_9055516 Another song randomely chosen from 'Origins of Words and Phrases'.It seemed appropriate to have an awkward title for what is awkward song.
SWASTIKA BOOM BOX http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_8942750 The title of this song was taken randomely from 'Babylons Burning:From Punk To Grunge' by Clinton Heylin,The song had a certain Krautpop feel to it,very 'electronica'.I was trying to find the right word to describe it and unfortunatley Swastika popped into my head.I went to the aforementioned book and i pointed straight at the phrase Boom Box which seemed like too much of a coincidence for me to let go so i decided to go with Swastika.
THE LOCKED ROOM MYSTERY http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_8877622 The title of this song was inspired purely by what i was hearing.I was reading an article in a newspaper about a murder back in Victorian times and it was called The Locked Room Mystery.Police had found a body inside a locked room where the door had been locked from the inside. There were no windows for the murderer to escape and it remained the Locked Room Mystery.
INSTINCTIVE DISCIPLINE http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_5761549 Another song title inspired by the aggressive sound of the track. It sounded to me like a case of organised noise which conjured up images of something wild being contained by something instinctive within us.After some to-ing andf fro-ing with the words i would use to describe it i settled with this title. This is one of my faves siimply because of all the work put into it.I took me over 4 solid hours of mouse clicking and an anwful lot of Typhoo Tea.
DEAFENED BY THE SILENT ALARM http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_7757721 This song was quite easy to name because of its awkwardness and sound. The sample towards the end of the track sounded like some sort of siren or alarm (the temptation to cal it The Jericho Siren was VERY strong) so it seemed the best idea was to go with alarm. Its one of the tracks that takes the most listening to because of its abstractness which lead to me to with deaf...something.The title came to me because its quite nonsensical just like the track itself.
SHE'S JUST ACOUSTIC http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_8942713 I had the title before i had the song. Its inspired by the love i have for my wife. Its as simple as that.
SOL INVICTUS VETERANS PARADE http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_8269881 I woke up one morning with the phrase 'Sol Invictus' going round and round in my head so i lodged it away for future use.Just before i 'assembled' this track i had been watching another documentary about the English Civil War.It was about the final battle 'The Battle of Worcester' and i imagined all these soldiers leaving the battlefield after the event.Veterans Parade sprang to mind and then i remembered the Sol Invictus thing and i put the 2 together. It doesnt
WITHIN THIS CHURCH OF MISERY. This is another title that came to me after seeing people at work going into the multi faith chapel to pray for their loved ones and it just seems that church doesnt seem to be about happiness anymore but despair etc.It is obviously influenced by the present social climate where people start searching for alternative methods of getting through the day as apposed to the worship of God and all that stuff. The title came to me almost immediately.
CIVIL WAR BULLET CATCHER. The title to this song came to me from 2 sources. One was from watching a documentary on the English Civil War and reading a book called 'I Never Knew That About England' by Christopher Winn.Theres a story about a soldier who fought for the royalists who was as mad as a balloon and he claimed to be able to catch a bullet between his teeth!
EMPTY ORCHESTRA HOLOCAUST. No particular meaning in this title.I like it that Karaoke means empty orchestra and i added holocaust because theres a lot of destructive words in my song titles.
A RANDOM AMBULANCE. This came from over hearing one of the nurses at work.It was a hectic day and this ambulance just turned up out of nowhere.Usually the A&E department is notified in advance what exactly is turning up next but this particular ambulance just showed up.'Oh Crap! A Random Ambulance.' This track was also used by 2 rappers 'U Poet & 5.2' to back their rap 'Random Reader'.I will post their version when i can get the final mix.
DEAD MANS LANE. A rather uninspired title for what appears to be an uninspiring track. The title came from the random word method.
ABERFFRAW. This is Welsh for Anglesey.A place we went camping to some time ago.I found its remoteness absolutely inspiring and if the weather could be relied upon i would vist every year.
People often ask me where i get the titles of my songs from.I thought id explain exactly where. UMNASKING THE FERGUSON GANG.
The Ferguson Gang were a masked gang that went around the countryside making observations of England's treasures. Their activities first came to light when in the 1930s, over a period of a couple of years, they made available the funds to enable the National Trust to purchase Shalford Mill. This was not the limit of their generosity. They also made available funding for the purchase of Newton Old Town Hall on the Isle of Wight and bought up a stretch of the Cornish Coast to save it from developers.
SATANIC ALIEN ABDUCTION. I chose this title by opening a book at random and basically pointing at a word on the chosen page. The book i chose for this title was 'Lords Of Chaos. The Bloody Rise Of The Satanic Metal Underground' by Micheal Moynihan and Didrik Soderlind.
DOOM FACTORY INFIDEL. This was another 'pick a book and point at words randomely'.This time the book was The Readers Digest 'The Origins Of Words & Phrases.'
SOVIET FIREFIGHT SERENADE. For some reason the melody line on this song sounded 'East European' to me hence the Soviet at the beginning.Originally i was gonna go with 'Russian Cockfight Serenade' but the more i looked at that title the less i liked it.After sleeping on it (and sleeping off a few bottles of Merlot) i decided to go with the title you see now.
CATILEPSY. After playing this track through a few times i decided that this would be a good soundtrack to someone in a catatonic state! Not that they would know much about it!
VIOLENT CHRISTIAN DESTROYS CHURCH. This is another title i got from the 'Lords of Chaos' book,it also tends to grab peoples attention which is half the battle won.
