Last nights Bass Summit at the Bitter End...

...... Was a home run. Man, what a turn out. It reminded me of the "old days" at the biter End. A round of applause for Mike for putting the whole thing together. It was great to see so many folks I haven't seen in years, and meet so many new ones. It was also great to see so many new, young musicians soaking it all up. Most of them had been taking part in an all day bass clinic, led my Mike , that started at 9:00am. By the time things wound down it was well after 1:30 am. That's allot of bass for one day. THe show started with a band. THe amazing guitarist Wayne Krantz opened things up with his trio. Tim LeFebvre on Bass, and Zach Danzinger on drums. Man can these guys play. It was the first time I have gotten to see any of them play live. ANd now for something completely different.......... OUR SET. I wasn't exactly sure how this was going to go over. Us, a bluesy, pop, rock band, sandwiched in between virtuoso , instrumentalists, playing in front a room full of musos. My hope was we would be a pallet cleanser of sorts. It turned out to be more than that. People really dug it. It felt like one of our best received shows in awhile. It felt great to me. Following us was a pretty sick act. 6 String Virtuoso Patrick Pfeiffer and his band PHX. Talk about some crazy shit. THe funny thing is after I put my jaw back in place, I was talking to Patrick and all he kept saying way... When we where watching you guys we where all saying that we wanted to play in your band. That's the band we want to be playing with. FInally, way past my bedtime, more than ready to go home...... the last act hit the stage. Leo Traversa and the African all Stars. Instantly , the energy in the room was turned up 10 ten. THese guys where so much fun. High energy , african rhythms, played so authentically, by a band having the time of their life. Now get this, Irish fiddler Eileen Ivers, sat in on a tune. SOmething you would never think of working, brought the house down. You check her out. SHe was amazing., Leo's playing was superb, as was his whole band. It was great being apart of an event like this. A treat to get to meet and hang with so many great players, all in one room. Thanks to everyone for coming out and sticking around all night. I , for one, had a blast. Cheers B
