On UK National TV

Just about to go out for a walk this morning and saw Midge Ure on the TV (Channel 5 - Wright Stuff). He mentioned the series we are on next month.

He then said he walked into this place with about 15 people on stage with a total age of around 860.

I thought that's us and they confirmed it by showing our publicity shot.

Us old fogies on National TV is gob smacking

POM in BBC Four series UK’s Best Part-time Band

In this new prime-time BBC Four series from Wall To Wall (a Warner Bros. Television Production UK Ltd Company), comedian Rhod Gilbert is confirmed to host the programme in which he embarks on a road trip across the country, on a mission to find the UK’s Best Part-time Band.

As part of the build up to the series, we were played on the Rhod Gilbert Show on the 14th May 2016.

The audio bits plus pics taken at some of the filming can be seen in our latest video

Memories of Days Gone By

It's been a while since I posted something, but this morning I was thinking about the days when there were countless places for bands, or groups as we called them, to play in and around South Wales? I'm sure those in other parts of the World who are about our ages will have similar memories

Looking back through our 60s gig diary, we were getting bookings (gigs for the young ones) on every night of the week, in numerous venues from pubs to large dance halls and they were always packed.

These days, you are lucky if you play at the weekends, usually Friday or Saturday night and it's mainly pubs and clubs. Sometimes the pubs get a few in and the clubs are packed until they finish bingo.

A large proportion of the venues in our diary have disappeared, either demolished or they no longer have music.

As we in the band are coming to the sunset of our musical lives, I often wonder where the youth of today are going to be able to develop their musical talents. It can't just be in those music academies that seemed to have sprung up in the major cities. They need to be able to perform at the 'grassroots' level before getting booked for some blues/rock/jazz/indie/reggae/etc festival in Timbucktu.

Back Home

We are all back at our respective homes now after a filming session and a great gig at the New Court Hotel in Usk, Never played the New Court before, but the staff and the crowd were fabulous. Many thanks to those who turned up at PILCS on the Friday for the filming, we'll keep you informed if there's anything happening.

Don't know about the others, but I am still shattered. Not sure if it's wise for someone approaching 70 to be prancing around a stage!! Better keep taking the tablets.

We are now taking a break until the end of November when we are playing two gigs, probably with a smaller band as the stage areas are very tight.
