The Rowan Amber Mill / Blog

Review in R2 magazine.

The Book of the Lost by Emily Jones and The Rowan Amber Mill is reviewed in the Mar/Apr issue of R2 magazine. To quote:- "Remarkable album" and "Yes, this is folkadelica of the finest sort". I think we are very pleased with that.

We recommend Lori Hartbarger's Oakenwood album.

We recommend you check out Lori Hartbarger's new album Oakenwood which has been released today. We've long been fans of Lori's music and really admire the purity of her approach to song. You can hear three songs from the album and also buy the album direct from her site. http://www.thistlecottagerecordings.com/oakenwood_cd_3

Back in the studio

Managed to spend half a day recording today. It was such a rare happening that I decided to get seriously experimental with the studio snacks and availed myself of some Marmite chocolate and it left the mandolin and mellotron breaks with the desired decidedly savoury texture.

On the radio

On 22nd February from 10pm (UK time) you can hear a track of ours played on Rick Stuart's now legendary Roots & Fusion radio show. The show also features the music of Eliza Carthy, Galley Beggar and the wonderful Iron & Wine (amongst others). The show is broadcast on Pure 107.8FM (also streamed live via the wonders of internet too). Check it out at http://www.pureradio.org.uk/.

Our debut album now available direct from our official site.

We are pleased to announce that our debut album Heartwood is available to order now from our official shop. Although the official release date is 20th September when it will become available on Amazon, iTunes, CDbaby etc, we are making the album available first direct from our own store within our official site - http://www.millersounds.co.uk/shop.htm The 14 track (55min) album is available in two different editions. The first an individually handcrafted numbered limited edition version, made from eco-friendly materials, and secondly a standard jewel case edition. Both editions include a 4 page full colour booklet containing artwork and liner notes. The CD itself is a full colour professionally printed CD. You can currently hear some songs taken at random from the album on our facebook player. The album took 9 months to record and mix. We hope you will enjoy it. Some quotes from reviews of Heartwood we've seen so far. "Having quietly raved about the Rowan Amber Mill's previous release, it's a real pleasure to be able to turn our attention this time to ‘Heartwood'". "The album's well worth seeking out. Lovely stuff! Get it before it's gone." Terrascope.co.uk "The Rowan Amber Mill and their album Heartwood come across like a British version of first album-era Espers - all melodius vocals, earthly splendour and quiet grace." - Shindig magazine. "Few tellers of whispered woodland tales tell them so effectively as The Rowan Amber Mill". "To cure your ills just take a dose of its idyllic folk beauty and drift off into another wholly more peaceful and wonderful world – you’ll love every second". "In all Heartwood offers 14 tracks to relish and savour – and when you hear them you will, no question". Folkwords.com.

New album, new songs, new news.

It has been a long time coming but the album we started recording in October 2009 has finally been completed. The protracted recording of the album saw us survive (mostly) intact, despite bouts of swine flu, the roof above us letting in copius amounts of rainwater (until its replacement); and our singer losing her voice. Anyway, the album is called Heartwood and it will be released on CD on 20th September 2010, and released on digital formats via iTunes, Amazon, Rhapsody and other reputable retailers also on 20th September 2010. You can hear a couple of randomly selected tracks from Heartwood (Face Of Flowers and Weaving The Willow) on our player. More news soon. Hope you are enjoying the summer. Love, The Rowan Amber Mill.x.

February 2010 - Album progress, Live dates, Compilation CD

The recording of our album continues, with a brief hiatus for our respective flu's, tonsillitis etc. It's pretty much just the main vocals and some strings and winds left to do now, so hopefully recording will be wrapped in the next few weeks, with final mixing to be done straight after that. Hopefully all will be done by early April. As ever, you can follow the progress / process of recording, mixing etc at http://www.twitter/RowanAmberMill. Stop Press - All Live dates unavoidably cancelled - Kim's solo CD now available Kim's long awaited solo album has been released this week, which is entitled Wednesday's Child - a wonderful collection of traditional and contemporary folk, with a few surprises. You can sample some songs from the album on Kim's myspace page - http://www.myspace.com/wyrdguy. Also, you can read all about the album's mystical, mythical journey on Kim's blog page - http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=221735227&blogId=529426246. Then of course, you can buy the Wednesday's Child CD in all its shiny disc glory, at her bespoke cyber boutique at Wyrdwyrksrecords - http://wyrdwyrksrecords.bigcartel.com/product/wednesdays-child-by-kim-guy. Go check it out. Stay tuned for news of an exclusive track of ours appearing on a dark folk compilation CD to be released in April. Bye for now. Love, The Rowan Amber Mill.x.
