It was an overcast day on Sunday March 16th. Drummer Jordan Lozeau showed up with a case of PBR and newly recruited bass player Brandon Eden showed up with a stomach flu and a bad case of diahrea. The day had been set aside to conduct HELLGATE's first photo shoot for the band.
Singer/guitarist Joel Floyd West chose the shooting location at the last minute; the childhood home of Jordan Lozeau where the 2 would spend a majority of their earliest through teen years. The house has been abondoned for years.
The front yard of the old two story home is scattered with dead birds, so we had to be careful where we stepped. Just before entering, the first thing you see is a pair of hand prints in dripping red paint placed upon the front entrance door. And once you enter, the first thing you notice is wreckage, debris and the stale stench of death. We later found the smell was the coulprit of dead small animals, including another bird who's carcass made it in one of the photographs.
While taking photos on top of the roof of the house, a neighborhood kid started throwing rocks at the band, mistaking them for intruders. HELLGATE's drummer was just about to lay a beating on him when the kid recognized who he was and decided to hug it out instead.
And just a few minutes after the shoot was wrapped up and we had left the premises, the cops showed up. No doubt a suspicious neighbor had telephoned the local police station. The second anything so much as moves in this small town, it seems as though chaos is subject to break out.
