Nik Sea & The BlueTops / Blog

The Benefit Scene

We have done loads of charity/benefit work through out 2014. Raising buckets full of money for noble causes. As we conclude our 2014 concert schedule, which there will be another blog about later, I must say, the amount of effort put in by everyone involved in this years Children's Hospital benefit from Howard Hanna really paid off. We together were able to raise $18700 for the Free Care Fund, which is up from $10300 from last year, though last year we were not involved. To all the Howard Hanna staff we gotta thank you all for all the effort and coming together on an annual basis for such a noble cause. You folks truly make a difference. Don't stop. To all the People that came in and showed love, and otherwise allowed us to exploit there phenomenal talents. A hat goes off to you. Jason Born - Absolute wizard in the blues realm for his age. A kid that has a soul older than his body and a talent that is larger than life. To think this kid is in his teens gives cats like me a sigh of relief as to where the blues is heading and it shines through him that this beloved genre will be quite alright. Thank you. Annie Sutton - What more needs to be said other than her name. She is an absolute legend in her own right. From 10 wheel drive, and the works she did with The Rascals, her resume' really speaks for itself. The warmth of her soulful powerhouse vocal blows me away. It is a great honor for us to get to back her up from time to time, and most importantly the absolute selflessness to be apart of a great cause show her true nature. Love. And we love you Annie Sutton. Thank you. Jason Caliguri - You may know him from Dr. J's Mojo Hand, Jimbo and The Soupbones, or simply as one of the best guitarist in Pittsburgh. This guy is super funky, blues, soulful and really has a bag full of licks and riffs that seem to never end. Huge talent, and very humble and gracious man who came through for us to be apart of this years goodness. Go check this guy out. Monster player. To you Jason we Thank you. Katie Simone - Our girl! Last but certainly not least. We have a group behind Katie called Katie Simone and Soul Vaccination. We're killin' it right now. Please check that out if you can! Katie is a force of talent and pure soul to be reckoned with. The true Soul Queen of Pittsburgh, and at a mere 24 years old. I don't see anyone de-throning her for quite a sometime. A humble sweet soul offstage, and an absolute whirlwind of Soul Funk and Blues onstage Katie just comes through, helps raise a ton of money for a great cause, burns the house down with her music and waltzes off like she does it in her sleep. Huge talent. Huge heart! We love you woman. To you our deepest thanks! Now, for musicians Benefit can be a dirty word. No pay, Lots of effort. But the pay is in what the benefit goes to. I.E. This years Free Care Fund, I wanted to pull my hair out so many times arranging everything, and making sure tickets were moving, doing the ad campaign, the design work for the ads and flyers, not to mention making sure the music was tight and the band was all on the same page. It was a full time job in itself. But, ya know, one day, there's going to be a single mother who works two jobs, and still cant make ends meet. Her child gets ill and she can't afford healthcare, let alone a trip to the ER. And that woman is now covered because we all came together and busted our hump to raise that money. That's the payoff. Its not about YOU making your $100 per man for the gig. It's knowing that you actually stood up and did something moral. Something where if more people did theses things, humanity would improve. Obviously a musician can't survive doing only benefits, but to those of you who have a negative outlook on them i say to you, Do Them, and choose them wisely! And hopefully this will give you a little bit of a different perspective on things.

The Vision

Today we're talking about "The Vision". And in reaching whatever vision you have, it takes the right attitude and mindset to achieve it. I won't say too much, but wouldn't it be great to see us playing on a big ole' boat someday huh? We think we know the way to it and beyond, and have a certain confidence in our song writing and performance level to be considered one of the regional heavyweights before to long. We are continued in pacing ourselves in order to have all the right approaches from the business sides of things so that everything else can be focused on without distraction. Having some good conversations and making new contacts has been a vital part of the band was gonna stir things up and get a fresh approach at the scene. In a couple months time tops, you'll hear a single released by the band. We are going to have an online release event for that, and we will also offer the single on CD at live shows, and it will be available on our websites where portions of the proceeds go to a great cause in The Fender Music Foundation. Before we close out the blog, we want to thank all the fans online, the new ones, the ones that have been here all along. We wish to see you soon.

The Fender Music Foundation

We are now offering Walking Away for purchase where 50% of the proceeds are going to The Fender Music Foundation to help put music back in schools. We believe that the state of the music business and the pop culture that is a bi-product of that are drastically effected by the youth in the world not having any knowledge about music, its history, its purpose. We hope that you would be so kind as to download Walking Away today for only $1.29 and help us put the music back in the hands of the youth so that it may live long and strong. Thank you very very much. We love ya!
