MW3 CD Review and interview!

http://www.mwe3.com/reviews/MarkCloutier2010/ MARK CLOUTIER Attitude With Gratitude (Blues Lion Records) Based in Upstate New York, in the Syracuse region, guitarist Mark Cloutier is doing a great job releasing a barrage of CDs on his Blues Lion Records label. Much of Mark’s 2009 CD Attitude With Gratitude is instrumental in nature and with that unique element front and center, his guitar work sounds also greatly inspired by rock legends like Hendrix, Jimmy Vaughan, early Buddy Guy and T-Bone Walker. Likewise, much the same could be said about Mark’s 2008 CD with his group Stratattack, entitled Blues In My House. Featuring solid support from an adept rhythm section, Cloutier’s guitar takes on a number of sonic guises on different tracks. For instance, track 8 on Attitude With Gratitude, “There’s A Place”—a great atmospheric instrumental that mixes rock and jazzy styles to great effect—is one of Cloutier’s finest and most memorable tracks. One look at Cloutier’s web site and you can really see a guitarist who is quite prolific, with each of his CD's being strongly recommended to both blues and rock fans, as well as guitar instrumental fans. www.DoubleBarrelBluesBand.com MUSIC WEB EXPRESS 3000 presents MARK CLOUTIER Guitars Center Stage Guitarists making waves in the music world, their new recordings and gear! Musical Background I started playing guitar when I was 14 years old. I saw this fella playing a Halifax Les Paul copy guitar in the school hallway and it caught my attention. I remember him playing “Ain’t Talking ‘Bout Love” by Van Halen and I thought it was the coolest thing. I approached him and asked about the guitar and he told me he was selling it. I went home and begged my parents for a week or so and they finally gave in and gave me the money to buy it! Very exciting for me as I was tiring of athletics and need something new—a new challenge! I had a friend who played guitar so he started teaching me basics and eventually I studied with a fella by the name of Dana Klipp. He turned me on to the blues and all the great guitar players! I have been playing for 30 years now and everyday I am still learning something. I also enjoy playing bass and on some of my early solo guitar recordings you can hear me playing the 4 string! New CD As you may have noticed I am very busy recording my works. It really is an ongoing documentation of all my ideas and influences. I really love turning on the record and sometimes just tapping into my stream of conscience. Lately I have really worked on themes and dynamics to build off of and then come back to. Seems to be a very good formula of late. The new CD Attitude With Gratitude was based on that formula. I received some helpful tips from the legendary Bruce Iglauer of Alligator Records. He has listened to some of my recordings and made mention of paying a bit more attention to melody and themes to bring out my soloing more. I took that advice and think I am heading in the right direction for sure! Attitude With Gratitude is the result.

And what a great start with 3 hours of smoking blues from Upstate New York Blues Band - Double Barrel Blues Band. Originally DBBB were scheduled as the openers for Florida native southern rock band Molly Hatchet best known for songs like Flirtin’ with Disaster. So much for Flirtin’ with Disaster the guys cancelled today’s show and rescheduled it for tomorrow because the weather forecast looked better for Sunday. Talk about a bunch of Prima Donnas’ which is just fine by me. The overcast skies didn’t slow the boys from New York down in fact I think it fueled their set of originals as well as tributes to legends like BB King, Eric Clapton, Chris Rea, Stevie Ray Vaughn and many others. These guys know how to play the blues. So my suggestion is this, the Double Barrel Blues Band are performing 2 more shows before heading back home to shovel snow off their driveways. They are going to do an encore show at Seminole Harley Davidson in Sanford Fl, tomorrow at 3 pm and then they are tearing the roof off at Bootsies Hideaway in Port Orange Fl. from 9:00pm-1:00am Go see them and tell em Nick sent ya. "In the Tradition of the Who's "Tommy" and Floyds Seminal "Dark Side of the Moon", This magnificent album explores the melacholy and outrage that is at the Heart of the English Psyche" London Music review This is How it Happened, JC Carroll a London (England) Based composer musician and Songwriter was looking for people to play on his New Rock Opera when he heard Marks Guitar playing. "I was blown away as soon as I heard him I wanted him on the album, even though I already had two really brilliant guitarists . I wanted to bring Marks Unique feel for guitar into the mix." Rob Grant coincidently had also worked with Cloutier had a piece of unfinished music that he thought might appeal to JC. That piece of music went on to become Caveman TV one of the most outstanding Tracks on the Album. Legendary Post Punk Songwriter and Performer JC Carroll last had a hit in the US with a Song Called Working Girl (with The Members) in the early eighties. JC may only be known for Working Girl in the States but in the UK, JC's Sound of the Suburbs is a modern classic as is the Members first Album "At the Chelsea Nightclub" JC has over the Years worked with many US and and UK legends from Johnny Thunders (New York Dolls) Dee Dee Ramone, Glen Matlock (Sex Pistols) has recently specialised in writing for Film and TV. 17 th ANNUAL NEW YORK STATE BLUES FESTIVAL Syracuse, New York Saturday July 12 th and Sunday July 13th, 2008 Things don't always go as planned, but everything always works out. That was the story for us on the weekend of the 17 th Annual NY State Blues Festival in Syracuse New York. Bernie Clark, the rest of the Festival Board, and all the dedicated Volunteers who seem to return again and again for some reason pulled off another successful event. According to the local press, attendance of up to 8,000 plus on Saturday, and even with an almost washout due to heavy afternoon rains, a 5,000 plus crowd on Sunday! We (my daughter Angela and I) had a late departure on Friday and didn't get into town until about 10:30 PM on Friday evening. After making a decision to not go out, we got a good nights sleep, got up early on Saturday AM, and got to visit a while with my old friend and guitar slinger Mark Cloutier ( Double Barrel Blues Band ). We arrived down at Clinton Square and were backstage greeting some of our old friends by 1:30, and got to catch the end of the Ron Spencer Band's set at the Dinosaur Barbeque Stage. Liverpool, NY guitarist Ron Spencer and high-octane energy singer Mark Gibson got the early afternoon crowd up with a blend of various covers and originals. With the rhythm of Jay Gould on bass and Ross Moe on drums, the band dug deep for Alvin Cash and the Crawler's 1965 goodie " Twine Time ," and got my head going up and down (traditional blues groove head bob) with their original " Rollercoaster Blues ." Next up came one of the bigger highlights of the Festival for me. The Double Barrel Blues Band took to the Hanover Square Stage and Mark Cloutier (guitar) and the boys tore it up. Opening up with Albert Collin's " Frosty ", it was only uphill from there. These guys have been hard at work on the local scene, and based on the musicianship it would appear they all have been honing their skills! Keep up the great work guys, and thanks for keeping it real!
