This track began life as a guitar+ebow improvisation. Karsten edited and processed the ebow audio and added beats, synths and Pixel vocal samples. In this way he created a complete track with Electro-House influences.
Bowie died on 10 January 2016. I wanted to mark it somehow, and so I plugged in my guitar and recorded an off-the-cuff impro -- limiting myself to using the top two strings only. As it happened, I used an iZotope Trash preset called "Cracked & Phasey" with a Glaceverb preset called "Diamond Palace". This seemed fitting for Bowie -- as it recalled the "Cracked Actor" TV documentary and the "Diamond Dogs" album -- and so I titled my impro "Cracked Diamond". The idea was later developed by the Pixels, who each added something unique, including beats, synths, words and vocals, and in this way we made an "Electro-Chill" track.
This track began with the lyrics -- a short extract from a 10th-century Old English poem called "The Wanderer". This poem -- composed in the archaic Anglo-Saxon language -- describes the meditations & thoughts of a solitary traveller, forever wandering to escape trouble.
Tolkien was an expert in archaic languages and used Anglo-Saxon poems, riddles & customs as the cultural background of "Rohan" in his "Lord of the Rings" fantasy.
Karsten processed the original spoken-word vocal audio, and also some electric guitar audio (played with an Ebow), and backing vocals by Anis. He then added beats, synths & effects. In this way we made a modern "Tolkien" groove with a 10th-century lyric. We hope you will enjoy the result!
This is just a note to say that Karsten was involved in a serious car accident in December 2015 and is currently recovering in hospital. Our thoughts, prayers & best wishes are with him.
Karsten created a "live web" version of this song. No editing or computer tricks. And so he made a "live" session from musicians who, in actual fact, have never met.
Karsten created a House track, utilizing wave-table synthesis & vocal/guitar audio provided by the band.
We need balance in our lives. And dreams are essential for our well-being. Our relationship with colour is significant: from colour symbolism to colour therapy. Well, these are some of the ideas behind the song lyrics. Thanks to Pixels Melanie & Karsten for instrumentation, arrangement, production & song art/avatar.
This "chill" track started life as a guitar "doodle" based around minor 7th & major 7th chords. We also had some lyrics called "Digital World, Analog Soul", but somehow the track sounded better as an instrumental, so we ditched the words, keeping only "Digital" for the title. The track features several guitar stems, including one with Ebow, plus the following synths: Minimoog, ARP Soloist, ARP 2600, ARP Odyssey, Roland VR78, Moog System 55.
Delighted to inform that Pixeltruppen will feature on Niki Tyler's Unsigned Pop Show at EGH Radio on Thursday 16 July 2015, 8pm GMT.
Original electro-acoustic song about seeing a loved-one suffer while not being able to do anything about it. And so it's a kind of "empathy" love song. Features vocals by "Anis", guitar & backing vocals by "Christopher" & synths+beats by "Karsten". The song was also arranged & produced by Karsten.
