Another Day Another Victory

Did you ever notice that when things start going good it seems like everything starts breaking? The best thing is that we know we have victory over the issues that rise up from what seems like out of nowhere. We have a Daddy God who loves us and has promised to give us victory over our struggles and trials. “Now praise be to God who always causes us to triumph in Christ” 1 Corinthians 15:57. That’s one of those scriptures you can repeat a couple of times (or all day even) to get your mind & spirit into the right gear. I won’t go into detail about it all but I just want to give God the praise. He has been so good to me.

We had a great time performing at Freedom Rally ’09 in Brent, AL over the weekend (May 23). Our drummer Todd the Bod couldn’t make it because his girlfriend was graduating high school. We were like “whatever bro”. It was really not a problem though as we had a talented drummer play the show with us. Huge thanks to Caleb Miller for drumming! On Saturday morning we arrived at the park in Brent and the rain was coming down like cats and dogs. I like that phrase “raining like cats and dogs”... I wonder where it came from?? (in the filthy streets of 17th/18th century England, heavy rain would occasionally carry along dead animals and other debris. The animals didn't fall from the sky, but the sight of dead cats and dogs floating by in storms could well have caused the coining of this colorful phrase. )

Well anyway it was an outdoor event and the vendors were unable to attend due to the rain and many of the people who had planned on attending were unable to make it out. The event planners did such a wonderful job and worked so hard. We believe that God’s purposes were achieved regardless of the situation. Thank you Melanie Miles, Taylor, Omar and everyone who made the band and I feel at home. We had an awesome time and God was glorified!

If you’ve been following along with the book reading I’m behind two months now. No book for April or May. I’ve been extremely busy with the music and I haven’t had time to sit and read. I did read a couple different books in the Bible. Jude is a good one and its short too!

Rock on!

We spent a week in PC leading worship for a youth revival and it was AWESOME! It was crazy because it felt like we were constantly under attack from the devil but it was one of the best “mini-tours” I have ever been on. First of all we met some of the coolest people at Life and Praise Assembly of God. When we arrived in Panama City Florida we were greeted by the pastor, his family and the neighbor who happened to be stepping out of his house to see what was going on (Mickey you rock bro). From then on the people took us in and fed us and treated us like royalty.

The first night of the revival we had trouble with the sound but it was rocking by the time we started, except for the blown left speaker (maybe a little too much rockin). The next night it rained and rained so some of the students couldn’t make it to the show due to flooding in different parts of the city. On Friday it finally stopped raining so we loaded up the Jimmy and went to the PC beach! Yeah! We have some video and some pics I will upload later. It was my two sons Ethan’s and Isaiah’s first time to the beach. They cried, laughed, and had an all around good time. Then we packed up and decided to head home after about two hours. Then it happened. Some dude pulled right out in front of my family and I and I had to swerve to keep from plowing right into him. So my wife, myself, and my two kids went airborne into a culvert. Praise the Lord no one was injured. The truck was towed to a friends house and we had Mickey come by and pick us up so we could get ready to rock that night. And we did. God moved and we had a great time. It just felt like the devil knew we were going to have a great time that night and he tried to stop us. But we weren’t having it. We rocked for Jesus even harder!

So here we were in PC Florida, one vehicle and about 10 people and a trailer full of equipment to try and get home to Nashville. God is so awesome He orchestrated the whole thing. There just so happened to be a person who drives to AL once a month and this weekend was the one he was headed to Birmingham. He decided to take us and our trailer up to Birmingham and drop us off at the church we would be playing at in Centreville (Thank you Brad for helping us get to the next city!). Then we rocked Centreville Baptist Church for Jesus and the youth pastor hooked up our trailer and took us the rest of the way back to Nashville. Thanks pastor Scott Hunter for helping us get home: )

Telling the story here doesn’t really give it justice because there were a few moments that we were like, “ok God we need you”. But it was awesome just trusting in Him and knowing that He was going to take care of us and get us home.

A HUGE thank you to everyone who helped us during the whole trip. We were truly blessed.

By the way in March I read the book “Brave New World” by Aldous Huxley I really enjoyed this book. The story line is supposed to be 600 years into the future but if you really look at the time this was written (1939) its almost like much of his assumptions on family life and culture was fulfilled in the 50s and 60s. It is a great eye opener for our time. Take a read. It will trip you out.

God bless and I’ll keep you posted.

Rock on!

I am doing my best to keep up on my resolutions for 2009 and I’m doing alright as it would seem but of course there are a few things that I have dropped already. At least I didn’t make one to go back to the gym (I am starting next week though). Anyways, I set a small goal to read 12 books this year, one per month. Its not a huge feat but I think it is a goal that is attainable and will keep my mind agile... So I thought I would share with you the books I am reading to perhaps start some discussion. By the way... This is not Oprah’s book club! That woman is crazy! Creating god in her own image... Ok I will stop now.

January’s book - The Shack - by William P. Young I loved this book. There were a few ideas that really stretched my thoughts about God and how he can represent Himself to us. I talked to several friends and pastors and we discussed as long as God keeps His attributes, He can represent Himself on Earth however He chooses. Once He came as a burning bush. One time God spoke through the mouth of a donkey. Also, God is a spirit and is neither male nor female. I recommend this book to anyone looking for some entertaining and thought provoking ideas. If you’ve ready the book, comment back and let me know your thoughts.

February’s book - 1984 - by George Orwell Wow. What a mind blowing book. Let me warn you, this is not a Christian book but anyone who cares about the direction our nation is taking should read this one. Orwell paints a dark picture of the future if governments fulfill their desire for complete control and the submission of its subjects and the lust for more and more POWER. If we paid any attention to what is going on in Washington we would see the cold, icy fingers of totalitarianism quickly beginning to tighten its grip on our American society.

In 1984, Orwell depicts that television (or telescreen as they are called) will be a two way monitor for the government to watch every movement in every household. Even the microphones are so sensitive they can pick up every word that is spoken or whispered. Camera’s and microphones are everywhere throughout the country. There is complete surveillance of every individual. The government has taken the ideologies of past dictators, tyrants, presidents, popes, and created a world where no one lives for anything except for the love of Big Brother.

Alright... I will stop with the book review but it is pretty scary to see Orwell’s ideas happening now. This book was written in 1949!

Have an awesome week and keep rockin for Jesus!

This is just a quick update on everything thats been happening. We had the CD release party on Feb 17th and it was awesome to see all my friends and fans come out to support my music and ministry. The guys in the band are amazing. They let me abuse them and they still love me: ) No for real though major props for my boys for making it ROCK! I also want to thank the sound guy for tweaking the system to the max. They say you’re only as good as your sound man, so the sound guy was really good. Thanks to everyone who helped make this event a success.

We also played at a College retreat over the weekend of Feb 27 and 28 and it was awesome. We led worship for the Assembly of God College and career age students in good ‘ol Goodlettsville TN at Camp Jackson. The weekend was cut short by the weather but we had the opportunity to meet some new people from all over the state of TN. I believe that the Holy Spirit was moving in our services and He was changing all those who were reaching out for Him. Huge thanks to Pastor Terry Allen and his team. Thanks to the dinner crew who made us those kickin’ pizza’s. I’ll never forget the little song the two girls played on their hands singing “girl, girl, girl..” in perfect harmony.... ah..

Well peoples I am headed to bed.

Its late and I’m up working on the website, press kit, release invitations, radio promotions, letters to editors... the list goes on and on. I should be sleeping but I can’t... to much to do. With that said I am thankful to have the opportunity to send the music and prepare for what God is going to do. I am simply amazed at how He works. Indescribable.

We are having the CD release party at Pie In The Sky in downtown Nashville on Tuesday Feb 17th. If you’re not doing anything you should come... Seriously, free food and free music. It doesn’t get much better than that.

I love that when God pours out a blessing it is usually for everyone surrounding that person and more than just for the individual. Think about it... You know if you get the job you were praying for, not only are you blessed but the employer is blessed with a good employee, your kids are blessed because they have food to eat and clothes to wear, your friends and family are blessed because they don’t have to hear you whine anymore: ) Just a thought.

I was listening to Endtime.com’s radio program today and Pastor Irvin Baxter said something pretty crazy. Basically once the peace treaty is signed in Israel you can mark your calendars... 7 years and here comes Armageddon. Very strange but if you look at scripture it is very strange how it all lines up. Not a conspiracy theory just cold hard facts baby! Based on the urgency and priority that Obama is placing on getting a signed peace deal, it is a very real concept to think it could happen in 2009. So if 2009 is the “confirmation of the covenant” spoken of by Daniel the prophet we will have 3 1/2 years of peace, then 3 1/2 years of tribulation. Sing it Crystal Lewis, “People get ready, Jesus is coming...”

Are you ready??

Good night - devin

Gravity rocks

Last night our Gravity service was amazing. I believe God is doing a work in Murfreesboro and I am blessed to be a part of it. If you’re ever in the Murfreesboro area on Wednesday night you should come out to Family Worship Center and hang with the Gravity peoples. Check out www.gravity1.org. Gravity recently became the official Chi Alpha outreach to MTSU and we just purchased a “kick-butt” house right across the street from the MTSU campus in front of the Murphy Center. I believe that God has something special planned for the students at MTSU this year. We’re going to have coffee house nights, parties out on the lawn when it gets a little warmer of course, and a huge dunking booth so we can baptize people. hehe... just messin. Wanted to see if you were actually reading.

Anyways, the time has come for all of us Christians to step up our commitment to Him. Set some actual goals this year that are achievable. I’m preaching to myself now. More later. Peace out...

Rock on! - devin

A Long Monday

Its actually Tuesday now but when I started working on updating the website it was still Monday. I’m up sending out a couple more e-mails and fixing little errors on the site I’ve been finding (gotta love iweb). I’m very excited about this year though. I know God has something special for all of us. The truth is the end of the age is coming soon and we really don’t have much time. So we all must be about our Father’s business. We see it everywhere in the news and its almost like there is a feeling in the air. Of course there is that nay saying voice that people have been touting off that the end is coming for centuries. I don’t know though. There seems to be much more going on. I found a really cool teacher who has been studying the end times for years. If you get bored and want to check it out go to: www.endtime.com. There are hours of teaching available for free! It’s pretty amazing. I thinks its very important that we pay attention to the signs of our times. Don’t you? Jesus said, “Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.” Matthew 24:42. Yeah, Matthew 24 is full of cool stuff.

Before my head hits the pillow I will be selecting music for the next few events and spending a little bit of time with Him. Good night: )
