WTF happened to Indie as a genre

If you listen to many of the "Indie" artists on the Indie charts you will come to the same conclusion I have. Most artists giving themselves the label "Indie" either don't care about the history of the genre or are completely ignorant of said history. In my opinion if you can fit comfortably and consistantly into a specific genre, you need to stop calling yourself indie. Indie I thought was a willful disdain of conformity and zealous pursuit of the freedom to experiment. Indie artists please themselves first and if others happen to jump on board, then great, let's have a party. Some folks need to look for another tent. Then again, maybe, I'm in the wrong genre myself.

Funding an Album

Most people don't understand the costs involved in making an album, yes I call them albums. Look up the definition, it says nothing about vinyl records. From booking the studio to editing and mastering the tracks, everything has a price tag. When you pay $10.00 to download an album you might think that's a rip-off,but,a big chunk of that ten bucks goes to the overhead, not to the artist. The next time you download a song for "free" just remember, someone paid alot of money to make that record and you are taking food out of the mouths of that artist's children.
