10 songs recorded at the Bomb Shelter in East Nashville

What a swell day, yesterday, July 12, 2015, the kind I wish I could wake up to over and over. We recorded 10 songs at the Bomb Shelter in East Nashville!

Since my dad is getting older and my sister is tired of being the sole "baddy" to daddy, like telling him he can't drive anymore, etc. I've been coming down to Nashville more often. I've been doing the open mic at Douglas Corner Cafe. There I met Donnie Winters, who runs the show. I noticed that every time he played back up to someone on stage, they magically sounded brilliant. So... I decided to record an album with him! I also met Tim Jones, a really kick ass harmonica player there as well. In keeping with my NYC band, where everyone seems to be in the book trade of some sort, publishing, printing, or me, rare books, Tim is a printer at Vanderbilt.

I booked a day at The Bomb Shelter in East Nashville, a studio that is completely analogue down to the reel-to-reel tape where it all ends up. They recorded the Alabama Shakes break out album Boys and Girls, as well as Hooray for the Riff Raff, and numerous others. So, yesterday being the day, Billy Bennett presided at the motherboard. He's got a great ear, we recorded live with Aaron "Mort" Mortenson on drums, Jon Estes on both upright and electric basses, Mike Randall on lead guitars, and of course, Donnie Winters on "magic" dobro and Les Paul, and Tim Jones on harmonicas. At the end we overdubbed some keyboards as you have to there: they have an amazing room with 2 B3s, a Farfisa, a Wurlitzer, and a Steinway upright, among a half-dozen other choices. James Westfall came in as a hired gun to add 3 tracks on piano and one B3... He's great! All the above musicians were amazing, as well as Billy, I suggest everyone come down to Nashville and make records with them!

I cannot wait to share it with you all... stay tuned over the next few weeks...
