In its fourth year, the Homework Club Benefit Concert will again bring together two generations of musicians to perform a concert that funds the after-school mentoring program at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Old Saybrook. Two local bands, sayWHAT? and Riverside, are looking forward to performing on Friday, June 3, at St. Paul Church, 56 Great Hammock Road, 6:30p.m. - 9:00p.m. Complimentary light refreshments will be available as well as a gift basket raffle that includes generous donations from local businesses. All proceeds go directly to fund the mentoring program, which is in the 10th year of operation! A free will offering of $10.00 is suggested. Come enjoy the Ed Lepore Music Festival Celebration of Life on Sunday, May 29 from 1 p.m. to sunset, rain or shine, at Doane's Airport, 75 Westbrook Road, Centerbrook. What's to enjoy? A jam session of area bands like no other. They include Blues on the Rocks, Shiny Lapel Trio, Roadhouse Rockets, Side Doors, Mojo Boys, sayWHAT?, guest artists, and a tribute jam session. The common thread-or common drum beat-among these bands is Ed Lepore, an accountant by day and a drummer by night. Lepore died last October at the age of 46, leaving his wife and three children. In his honor, and to celebrate his life, the bands in which Lepore played have come together to have fun and raise funds. Donations will be accepted at the door to benefit the Lepore Wellness & Education Fund; there is no admission fee.
