Hello all! First blog in quite a while so, here it goes. I've really enjoyed getting back into music in the last year and a half. I've played and re-worked some old songs, made a lot of new ones and I've basically just had a ton of fun in the process. I've been buying new gear, guitars, effects, etc. and recently bought an electronic drum kit. Drums were one of my first instruments to learn and I am learning to love them again. I've learned a lot about digital recording, editing and mixing as well. I think with each track that I record, they sound better and better!
I've met a bunch of new people and bands through Reverbnation and Soundcloud. One of the best things an artist can achieve is to receive recognition and support from those who do the same thing as you. Also, a big thank you to all of my Facebook friends who support me as well! I basically make all of this music for my own personal gratification and it's a great outlet and stress reliever but, it's nice to know that other people have at least some appreciation for what I do too. I'd also like to take a second to thank my Dad for always supporting me in whatever I do and, to my wife for putting up with the noise and the hours that I spend in the studio, cranking out the hits.
I'll probably always love Metal music. It's the heart and soul of what I've always loved about music in general. However, sometimes the more I play, the more abstract my ideas get. And sometimes, the more ideas I get, the more I play. Not sure if that makes any sense but what I'm getting at is this: I think I'm going to be switching categories (genre, charts) on Reverbnation. I've enjoyed a lot of success on the local Metal charts, staying at #1 for most of the time, which also happens to be where I'm at now. But, I think I'm going to go over to the "Jam" genre.
There's a couple of reasons for this change. The main reason is that I don't feel at this time, as my playing and song ideas have progressed, that I want to be tied down to a definitive category. Many of my older songs prove that I can, and want, to play stuff other than straight Metal. The second reason is that this is not really a "band", it's just me. I don't often sit down and actually write songs. Most of my material just pops up in my head and I go with it. Like a "jam". I don't sell albums, I don't play shows. I just do this for fun. So, for those two reasons, I've concluded that I'm more of a "jammer" than a Metal artist or band.
I'm sure I'll be recording PLENTY of more Metal tracks in the future. It's probably what I'm best at. But, by switching charts, I leave myself open to other sonic possibilties and I have a better chance of not confusing new listeners. Say, someone new to my page sees the header "Metal" and then listens to a song like "Eight". Then they scratch their head and say, WHAT?!! I haven't moved to the new chart quite yet but, it may happen soon. Thanks for reading and thanks for your support!!
As the end of 2013 comes near, I'm very thankful for the success that my renewed interest in playing and recording music has brought me. I posted my first song to this page on February 9th and since then, I've managed to put together 33 tracks in all. Not all of them appear on my song list but the list will continue to grow. I plan on creating at least one more track before 2014, maybe as many as four or five. We'll see what happens. A big "THANKS" goes out to all who listen and support my efforts.

New song is coming along splendidly! My experiences on my previous projects this year has gotten me to the point where I might be busting out a new song every 2-3 days, instead of every 2-3 weeks. I think I'm really getting my recording technique(s) fine-tuned into the most efficient manner possible. This will be my 4th song posted this month, which is a "record" for me. It used to be a lot of work to get 2 songs completed in a month. Carry on...
Hard at work getting used to my new effects pedal. It's gonna take some tweaking to get it set up exactly how I want it. The end result should be well worth it. Next new song will probably be an original acoustic type thingy, just something to help me work out the bugs in my new set-up.
Put together a song that is part old and part new, like a lot of them. I like it. Crank it up!!
I've been a little dormant lately. Was out of state on vacation for a week. Got a new song coming SOON in the next couple of days. It's killer!!
I'm trying to venture into new areas as I get more comfortable with my new tools and recording processes. New songs from here on out should be both diverse and eclectic.
After a few slower, softer songs, I think I'm going for some metal. If anyone can play a metal riff, it's me. But, before that, I've got one little "extended solo" type track to post, hopefully tomorrow.
After a few years off, I'm writing and recording again. Stay tuned.
