Hi, with regards to the music I compose and produce as Electronic Blue, I thought a bit of an insight wouldn't go amiss as to how I arrive at the end results you hear on the debut album 'As time slips slowly by' and other tracks I have released so far. Well, as with most composers, a rough outline would be I would start with a riff or melody and exapand from there into various parts of the track in question, such as chorus, verse, leads etc.. It is not unusual to start with a phrase that ends up as a chorus part as opposed to a main theme, it really depends where the music takes you, as it were, as I progress the track. All my composing amd mixing is done within Logic Pro, on either an iMac or Macbook Pro, as I have all of my soft synths on both computers, so it depends where I am at the time of composing as to which one i use. So, as with all solo artists and some groups too today, I layer parts of a track within Logic as it progresses and can easily identify and split the different parts as I piece it together. a lot of my tracks have a minimum of approx 15-20 different parts to them, so you can see how a tracks layers are soon built up. Some parts can be a single sound used for a second or two, or they can be any length including some which will be part of a track throughout the recording from start to finish. Also, being a keyboard player, I actually play all the keyboard parts you hear on my tracks, apart from the obvious drum patterns and sequenced arpeggios, which are either taken from samples already available on the synths I have in the studio or built up from scratch by programming. These days, there are a lot of excellent pre built rhythms etc within synths, drum machines etc so that the starting point isn't a blank piece of paper! But, even when using presets I usually add in a preferred tempo as well as various efects that change the original sample to better fit the track I am composing at the time. All of the solos on my tracks are played on synths, even some that sound like guitar leads. for the guitar type lead I normally use a Roland AX synth, but I have used Omnisphere for this too and one of the Korg modules I have. The solos are normally done in a single take, or with the more technical ones, I will do a couple of run throughs then record live in one take. I know this is outside the norm for the majority of Electronica genre groups/musicians/DJ's today, but each to their own! :-) I guess I am more inline with J.M. Jarre and Vangelis etc with regards to playing the parts of a track as opposed to mixing various beats and presets. I'm actually not a very good DJ lol which is probably why I perfer to play the keyboards! :-) Well, I hope you enjoy the music of Electronic Blue and any replies are more than welcome, thanks!
Hi, I thought I would share with you more about Electronic Blue (Joe Campbell to be more precise! :-) ) and what I do outside of music. Well, my main interest when I'm not doing music is weight training/ bodybuilding. I've actually been training most of my life and in conjunction with my music schooling and since 2008 production as Electronic Blue. I find that if you feel good in yourself, as training definitely gives you the feel good factor!, then it can only help in being productive and more focussed on music making etc. I must admit that I do train quite heavy at times and have done a lot of powerlifting previously too and still do today within my training programme. So, lifting the keyboards around the studio is not too much of an issue! Haha It would be interesting to hear if there are any of you who train regularly or what other interests outside of music you may have. If anyone finds this slightly interesting I can expand more on my training and weights lifted etc but I don't want to bore you too much now! Lol :-) Thanks and have a great day!
