MammaBear / Blog

http://therevue.ca/2015/08/03/mammabear-the-strange-love-ep/

Both “Kick Me” and “Strange Love” are loud and a little scuzzy and filled with catchy hooks. They also have a relentless, driving sound that will have you rocking throughout the night. The EP, in short, is just a riot.

But beneath the blistering music, the songs have deeper meanings – not about parties, late nights, or driving aimlessly down a highway. Instead, frontman Kyle Gordon shares very personal experiences that have contributed to his growth. They are experiences that many of us have experienced, which adds further appeal to MammaBear’s music. Ben Yung

“Strange Love” is the first of two lead singles, and it unapologetically straddles the line between high energy, uninhibited guitar rock, and sophisticated pop songwriting. Plus it was recorded like an early aughts Brit pop hit: As loud as possible to stand above everything else on the jukebox or radio. Bobby Moore

The swaggering garage sounds of “Kick Me” lean on a different decade of U.K. power pop impresarios than the EP’s counterpoint track, “Strange Love,” which skillfully channels vintage Gallagher brothers. Rube Ambler

Stumbled across this fantastic band MammaBear from Atlanta. The music is chock full of Rock N' Roll immediacy that I love. Have a peek at their latest video "Red's Dead"

MammaBear is the brainchild of songwriter, Kyle Gordon; who has been an Atlanta fixture for 10 years, having played in bands such as The Booze, Kill Gordon, Ski Club, and Young Orchids.
