Expecting the worst from the weather, it was instead a crisp evening in North Beach, where the Saloon served as an oasis for Friday-night partiers looking to escape from the cold. It turned out to be one of those classic Saloon gigs when the dance floor immediately filled up on the downbeat of the first song, thanks in part to the full contingent of friends who dropped by, including Saloon regulars Lorranie, Rodney, and Christie Lee, who all tirelessly danced through the night. The audience was treated to an array of great musicians who sat in, including Heath Haberlin on guitar, Kenny Crampton (of the Unauthorized Rolling Stones) on bass, and Kenny's brother (who was in town from Florida) on harp. The big surprise of the night came at the beginning of the second set, when one of Jesse's other bands, Wild Ass, took the stage for a thunderous and unlikely rendition of "Crazy On You" by Heart. I'll bet that was the first time a band has played that song at the Saloon — and probably will be the last!
CCB packed every seat last night at Lou's Fish Shack in the heart of Fisherman's Wharf. The dance floor remained jammed from the first song to the last. Kudos to the woman from Nevada who spent the whole evening air drumming.
