King & Scholes / Blog

An important message from King & Scholes

Hello everyone! King & Scholes have some news to share...... After much discussion and soul searching we have decided to cease King & Scholes as a performing act. However the working partnership between Dave and Dan will continue to strengthen. The plan over the next few months is for Dan to produce a collection of Dave's tracks, some old, some new that will go under the name of the performing artist David Neville King. Don't worry the musical chemistry and bromance will continue in to 2015! Over the coming weeks, look out for a brand new music page for David Neville King as well as a new producer page for Dan where you will be able to experience these songs as they are released. Thanks to everyone for all the support over the last 2 years and we look forward to your continues support as we enter this new era!

King & Scholes - a little history story

We've had a fair few people recently asking about how King & Scholes came about and also wanting to know a little more about each of us individually so here below is an up to date biography on where we've been, where we are and where we're going..... Enjoy

King & Scholes consists of Dave King and Dan Scholes whose aim is to write, produce and perform honest, passionate songs that will transcend generations and act as a soundtrack to people’s lives on this mortal coil. King & Scholes’s story goes back to August of 2012 when Dave and Dan first got together in Dan’s project studio with the aim of producing a collection of Dave’s songs to a releasable standard. It soon became apparent that the musical chemistry between them was undeniable and that even more was to be gained from this partnership by producing a collection of songs that could be performed by themselves as artists, as well as offering the songs for sync placements and securing publishing of the songs for other artists to record. They spent the remainder of 2012 and most of 2013 writing, recording and producing a collection of songs, some written individually and some co-written between them. As a result of this unique partnership, they started to gather a sizeable audience of fans on the internet and beyond, young and old. It wasn’t long before they were being played on local BBC radio as well as a multitude of internet podcasts where reviewers were lining up to praise them for their timeless sound. Since December 2013 things have taken an even greater turn for King & Scholes with a new and unlikely writing collaboration. Responding to a tweet by Sky Sports Spanish football pundit/broadcaster/journalist, Guillem Balague who was looking for someone to write music to his own lyrics, King & Scholes started writing their next collection of songs with Guillem. Since they began in December 2013, they have received further BBC radio airplay as well as being featured and played on national radio station TalkSport. Being keen Liverpool FC fans, it was an even greater privilege to have their song ‘After This and That’ played at half time over the loud speakers at Anfield during one of the recent matches of the last season. At this present time King & Scholes are hard at work, working on a 4-song EP written using Guillem’s lyrics which will be launched on Thursday 18th September at the world famous Cavern club in Liverpool. The EP will have an iTunes, Bandcamp and Spotify release as well as a limited physical release on CD. If this wasn't enough, over the next few months they are planning on remixing and re-mastering their existing catalogue and will be gradually releasing these songs for download via iTunes etc. King & Scholes’s aim over the next 12 months is simple – to reach as wide an audience as possible and touch the hearts of people around the world with their timeless songs.

Dave King – Lead Vocals, Guitars, Banjos, Backing Vocals

Dave started playing guitar at the tender age of 6 and started writing his own songs by the age of 14. Music was a prominent feature throughout Dave’s childhood with both his father and great grandfather being performing musicians in and around Merseyside. Before teaming up with Dan, Dave had also performed his material in various music venues across the city. Dave’s ability to be able to turn spontaneous thoughts in to lyrics and music has impressed many that have come across his songs over the years.

Dan Scholes – Piano, Ukulele, Programming, engineering and mastering

Dan began his musical journey playing drums and keyboards in acclaimed Liverpool bands Karmer in the 90’s and Garisson in the 00’s. A music graduate of Paul McCartney’s school for the performing arts, LIPA, it was here that he discovered his passion and studied the craft of studio production and engineering. Since that time he has continued to build on the knowledge gained at LIPA and continues to strive for perfection in how he approaches production and songwriting.

Who's liking "Filia"?

Well it's been just over a week since Filia was added to our band profile on facebook and reverbnation and it's seems to have got us a lot of plays. We're made up that people are liking it as much as they are so thanks guys! Also for those that don't know and wondering what or who Filia is about, well it's actually about a place in Skiathos that has become a favourite of mine and Mandy's (my wife). Coincedently it's also a popular name for a girl in Greece too which appealed to Dave and I that this could be interpreted as a love song also.

Anyway enough ramblings for now, new songs on the way very soon until then....... :-)

New song "Unconditional"

So we have a new song "Unconditional" written by Dave. Basically written from the perspective of a father to his unborn baby. Unashamedly auto-biographical with a beautiful and simple folk arrangement. We hope you enjoy!
