From the Overflow

Peter Pan By James Roberson I Don’t Want to Grow Up. I’m a Hip Hop Kid. I don't have the urge to play with toys. I see my kids playing with them, and I don't feel any internal pressure to get on the floor when no one is watching and pretend I'm in a war with my GI Joes or that I'm a gladiator along with He-Man. When I hear, "I don't want to grow up. I'm a Toys R Us Kid," I can no longer relate. The toys of the past don't temp me to return to my childhood. Yet, there are things that tempt me to act childish. Some days, I like being lazy and not doing any work. I feel tempted to look at women, at times, and view them as objects of my desire and not real people. I feel tempted by money, power, and sex. When I hear any of those elements, they remind me of my reckless youth. What helps me beyond those temptations is pursuing what God has called me to: manhood not boyhood. Author Darrin Patrick coined the term ban: not a boy, not a man, but something in between; an extended adolescence that gives young adults the freedom to continue to live like boys. The ‘ban’ is growing more addicted to video games and porn on a daily basis, according to psychologist Phillip Zimbard. The ‘ban’ also has another playful activity: he loves Hip Hop. “Peter Pan” is an indictment on Hip Hop, bans, and a culture that encourages grown men to live like irresponsible boys. But Hip Hop has the potential to be an agent of change. Hip Hop speaks to your emotions and your intellect so much so that a song may make you want to act like a kid. Or it can push you to do something, so that you will take ownership like a man. Hip Hop as an industry has decided it doesn't want boys to grow up and get jobs, have a wife, raise children, and leave a legacy. Hip Hop thinks it's ok to be 40, play with the emotions of women, and waste time like you’re 14 years old. Yet, every male has to make a decision on whether or not he will blame others for what he doesn’t become, or accept his God-given role as a leader. Men have within themselves the bloodline of the first man who was irresponsible (Gen. 3:12). We also have Hip Hop, fatherlessness, poor role models, mothers that smother their boys and protect them from risks, the media, and a whole host of other reasons why boys forego their chances to be men. The apostle Paul said, "When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things” (1 Cor. 13:11). Dr. Robert Lewis, the creator of the Men's Fraternity curriculum, says he wonders what those things were that Paul stopped saying and thinking. He went on to say, “Until a man accepts his calling as a leader he will always be a boy.” These are powerful words. A man will be trapped in a web of lies, excuses, videos, and Hip Hop fantasies until he decides, one day, that God has made him to take charge of his life, family, and community, and not live as a perpetual victim. I encourage every man reading this to not be like Peter Pan – always living in a fantasy; always living as a boy. Be like Paul the Apostle: put away childish things.

Christmas 2013

As we gather with friends and family to celebrate the birth of Jesus the savior, take a moment to remember without Christ, there is no Christmas. Share His love by reminding others that the gifts we exchange not only represent the gifts brought to Jesus from the wise-men, but also are a picture of the perfect gift given to each of us... SALVATION ! Merry Christmas from my family to yours, bro. Chris

We win

Romans 8:31 - What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

No devil in hell can stop us. So don’t let them. The enemy tries to throw a curve-ball at you in life, to make it seem impossible to make it!! But with God, NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE! The devil tries with tricks and smoke and distractions… Do not fall for it. If you are standing with God, you will not break, the winds may try to bend you, hold on tight to Jesus and watch Him pull you back up straight so fast the devil won't know what happened, but you will!!!

SO what can separate you from God’s love??

Romans 8:38 - For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Jesus Is ___ . by Pastor Judah Smith

I had the privilege of reading "Jesus Is ___ ." a few weeks before the official release date and I was completely in awe of the Revelation that Pastor Judah had for his audience. It's a book for Veteran Believers and the fresh Christian alike. And what's even better, a reader with no knowledge of Jesus or a Doubter of Christianity, would walk away with a clear understanding of the Gospel, and why we as Christians put our Faith in God. Pastor Judah opens up his life and shows us the things We All struggle with, but never talk about. I laughed more than a handful of times while getting into this great book... Pastor Judah is a comedian, but I don't think he can help it, which makes it funnier. I encourage any and all to read this book. It is an awesome companion to your Bible. It will bless you in ways you can not imagine. What do I mean? Well, I was inspired to write a song after reading this book. What will this book inspire you to do?

Fresh Start

The story of Jesus bringing Lazarus back to life has so many mysteries in it, that I encourage you to read it and study it out. But what I want to mention now is that while Jesus waited 4 days to get to him, it had a purpose. The religious leaders of the time thought that the spirit leaves the body after 3 days... so waiting until 4 days would leave no doubt as to the extent of Jesus' power. That being said, it IS still power if its not done for you the 1st day you ask. __ Maybe Jesus is not planning a healing... maybe He's planning a Resurrection!

Bringing Jesus to the Party

Just wanted to say a quick thank you to my lil brother... He asked my daughter and my self along w/ Isaiah to perform our song at his wedding! It was very special for me to be able to share my love for the King of Kings on my brother's and his new wife's special day. Bringing Jesus into the reception meant a lot to my family and I know it meant a lot to our earthly father... He really like's Al Green and the song we did is a remix to one of his songs. I know my brother took a chance letting us perform because not everybody at the event feels the same way we do about God. But it went very well and we believe all were touched by it. I'm sure some there had never heard rap music that Glorified Jesus before! So thank you lil brother, and thank you new sister in law. May The Lord Bless you guys with many years together. We love y'all.
