Well, while I am certainly no stone-country artist, I do like to listen to the stuff and have written a few "standard" country epistles. However, the level of songwriting here is extremely high, and there are many other writers in different genres, here, certainly. I'm excited to have gotten the one-hour gig (well, performance slot, actually, since no clubs pay songwriters to perform, in this town, though I heard Richard's encourages you to have a tip jar--gas money, right?) at Richard's Cafe, up in White's Creek. Most performances around town are only as part of a "round," i.e., three or four songwriters up on stage together, singing seriatim. So at most you'll get to do four or five songs, assuming the others in your round do short songs and don't chat too much in their intros! I've already gotten my roommate, the singer/songwriter Lauren Curtis, involved in co-writing, and she's contributed a bridge to one of my songs. Hopefully we'll work up a few new ones too, before I move out to my own house.
