The jazz trio Wicked Wilde - made up of jazz singer M.J. Wilde, guitarist Ben Martinez and bassist Dave Friedlander of Albuquerque, NM - packed the Clovis Civic Center in Clovis, NM, Jan. 23 and performed a two-hour concert that included scat-singing, beautiful ballads, swinging standards, dance music and even some humor thrown in for good measure. It was a great evening for everyone! Wicked Wilde wants to thank Clovis Community College who sponsored the event and all those who worked so hard to make the event such a great success! It was a blast! THANKS CLOVIS!
Still flying high from our great success at the Texas Jazz Festival on Oct. 17th. Our trio - guitarist Ben Martinez, bassist Dave Friedlander and myself as singer - took to the stage feeling like old friends, playing with fun and joy in our hearts while giving our all to our attentive audience. And for Ben and Dave, who were making their appearance at the festival for the 20th year, the experience was truly special. It was my second year and I felt so comfortable and welcomed by the thousands attending the festival that the entire experience became a truly extraordinary event. Thank you to all of our supporters, all the volunteers and all those who love and continue to support our music. Bright Blessings until next year! Whoop!
Getting ready to take off to the Texas Jazz Festival in Corpus Christi, Texas! Whoop! I'll be performing with guitarist Ben Martinez and bassist Dave Friedlander - and it's gonna be epic! We'll be playing at a private function on Thursday, Oct. 15, to celebrate the guys 20th year at the Festival - whoop! Then our main performance will be at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17 on one of the main stages. That's what I'm talkin' about! Can not wait! Hope you can make it! See ya there!
Started rehearsals yesterday with my trio Wicked Wilde for the Texas Jazz Festival in October being held in Corpus Christi, Texas! Whoo-hoo! Guitarist Ben Martinez and bassist Dave Friedlander have been performing at the Jazz Fest for many years with their well-known and respected instrumental jazz-fusion group The Ben Martinez Project. This is going to be our first year as just the trio - Wicked Wilde! No pressure. Yah! I am thrilled beyond words that Ben and Dave would have such confidence in me and our trio. I love you guys!
Had a beautiful recording session yesterday with guitarist Ben Martinez and bassist Dave Friedlander at Mountain Road Recording Studios with the help of owner/engineer Sid Fendley - also an incredible jazz musician his own self! Came out of it with four great tunes and hope to get them mixed and out into the world soon. Our trio, Wicked Wilde is on its way!
My trio - Wicked Wilde - with guitarist Ben Martinez and bassist Dave Friedlander had a fantastic rehearsal last night in preparation for our upcoming recording on Sunday. Of course today had to be the first day of summer - the longest day of year! Just when I can't wait to get into the studio and play! The tunes feel raucous and delicious and ready - and so do we! We're planning on four tunes - but I wanna do more. More! Haaaa... We'll see. We'll see..... Deep breath. Tomorrow. Gonna be a great day!
Whoa! My trio - Wicked Wilde - had such an amazing rehearsal yesterday, it was hard to remember we hadn't played in a few weeks. My brilliant creative partners - guitarist Ben Martinez and bassist Dave Friedlander - laid down some gorgeous music while the wind howled outside. We took on "Angel Eyes," "Some of These Days" and opened up on "Ain't Misbehavin'!" You just want everyone to experience the ease and beauty that comes with such creative endeavors. We'll be going into the studio in the next few weeks and recording and hopefully getting out to perform very soon. I'll let you all know! Thanks so much for all your support. It means more than you know! Wishing you sweet music and much joy!
Thrilled to be working with the Ben Martinez Project. Guitarist Ben Martinez, bassist David Friedlander and drummer Josh English. Sweet! Can't wait to wail at Vernon's Hidden Valley Steakhouse on Aug. 30th from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Gonna be tasty, so we hope to see you there! Dig it.
Hey - soon to be gigging with the great Ben Martinez Project in July at Vernon's in Albuquerque. Gonna be too coo-el, baby! Details to come. Dig it!
I know I've been away for a while, but I didn't realize how damn good it would feel to be back in Albuquerque. Today I had a visit with my dear musical soul mate, pianist Jim Ahrend. Wow, man. He's married to a wonderful lady and never looked happier. We have plans to record more - including an album of chicken blues that you are NOT gonna believe! Ha! It's going to be just my luck, you know. I will not become famous for being a great jazz singer. I will become famous as that chicken singer. Mark my words, man. It won't be M.J. Wilde who will go down in history. It will be her alter ego: Blanche Poulet. Oh dear. This week I'll be heading down to Vernon's on Fourth Street to inform them that I will be playing there, they just don't know it yet. Heh-heh. Also, heading up to Santa Fe venues to do the same. Love it. I mean, why not? I've found I'm just not afraid to just walk right in and give it all I got. Tired of wasting time. No more bullshit. So, if you're out and about and looking for some good music and see my name out there or hear I'm playing at a club near you - look out! M.J. Wilde is back in town and I'll tell you straight out: I'll give ya everything I got!
