NEW CD AMPLIFY BY JOHN BROWN’S BODY DEBUTS AT #1 ON BILLBOARD’S REGGAE CHART
BAND’S U.S. TOUR IS UNDERWAY
Amplify, the new release by progressive reggae band John Brown’s Body, debuts at #1 on this week’s Top Reggae Albums chart in Billboard Magazine. The new album, which also climbs to #10 on the CMJ World Music chart, was just released by Easy Star Records. It presents the band with the highest chart position in its history and outsells its 2005 release Pressure Points by nearly 20% in its first week of release.
“We’re very happy with the number one chart position,” says Easy Star’s Eric Smith. “But we’re equally excited to see that we’ve not only kept pace with the last release, we’ve outsold it. In these challenging times, where declining sales are the norm, this is a real achievement for everyone involved. It’s also a credit to the tenacity of this band, which has been through a lot over the last several years. JBB’s playing the game their way, and it’s great to see them rewarded for it."
"Amplify is a big stew of a lot of different influences and sounds and grooves,” says JBB drummer and co-founder Tommy Benedetti. “I think reggae applies to us in the way that we definitely draw from drum and bass. That's always the foundation of what we start with. We also tried to step outside of the normal reggae grooves‚ sounds‚ lyrics and topics on this one, and what goes on top wound up being very progressive and current.”
Amplify “…. fuses Kweli-like beats with Massive Attack funk” and “… invokes the tripped-up rhythms of Radiohead” - Boston’s Weekly Dig
“…the band’s energy is soaked up and spread out in all the right places, never allowing Amplify to slow down and catch its breath. A heck of an achievement…” - Glide

Two new songs are up on our MySpace, Facebook, iLike, and other pages! "Ghost Notes" and "The Gold" are tracks from the new JBB album Amplify, in stores September 30!
"Ghost Notes" is especially meaningful to our band - the song is about former JBB bassist Scott Palmer. Scotty lost his battle with cancer in 2006, but he lives on in our hearts and memories.
JBB fall US tour kicks off September 26 in Lake Tahoe! We'll be on the road for months, playing all over the country. Visit our MySpace for a full list of tour dates and show information.

We are excited to share some wonderful news. JBB's keyboardist Matthew Goodwin and his wife Vanessa are proud parents of a baby boy named Kofi James Goodwin! Kofi was born September 4th at 9:35pm and weighed into the heavyweight division at 8lbs 10oz and almost 22 inches long.
JBB took most of August and September off so Matt and his family could have more time together before Matt heads back on tour. Over this same time period everyone has been preparing for the September 30th release of our new album Amplify. We had offered the first 200 pre-order copies to be autographed by JBB. As Matt was expecting to become a father any day, he was unable to sign the pre-order.
However, with JBB playing over 35 dates this fall (www.myspace.com/johnbrownsbody) in the USA and Canada, he would be happy to sign CDs at all upcoming shows and looks forward to meeting you then. We will also make a special effort to give you the opportunity to meet other members of JBB as well, immediatly following most shows.
