INLAND MOON

SONGS OF THE INLAND
Jeanette Wormald has always
been a quiet achiever in Australian country and folk music, with her exquisite voice and songs. But
her new album is nothing short
of breathtaking. It captures the feel and landscape of her Central Australian desert home beautifully, but also takes the listener on a mesmerising emotional journey, with songs about new love and hope, and about pain, loss and disappointment. The first single, the powerful No Tumbleweed is remarkable, and the album offers a swag of songs of the same calibre, including the beautiful Poverty Weed (my favourite), the languid Sweet Honey Brown, High Tide and Too Much Woman. The album’s title track, Inland Moon is also memorable, as is the simple and sweet In The Shade. And I loved Summer Rain, which really captures what Jeanette calls the “sweet relief” of rain in the desert. Produced by Michael Cristiano, this is an album that comes very much from the heart – the heart of an individual and the heart of the country.

Playing and sharing music has been an incredible privilege for me since beginning my journey as a singer songwriter almost 20 years ago. Just before moving to Alice Springs in the heart of Australia in 2009, I thought my music career was over. However, this place has reignited my passion for singing and songwriting and performing. More importantly I have found ways to share my love of music through setting up an outdoor concert venue called The Alice Springs Courtyard Session. It is designed to honour musicians and their audiences by providing a quality experience that is rewarding to all. Importantly, musicians get well paid. With the support of my partner and volunteers we also work hard to create the right atmosphere through providing excellent sound and a sense of community and celebration. The response has been amazing with regular attendances of more than 130 people to the monthly events. We have also established a House Concert Venue called the Blue Pergola which is a member of House Concerts Australia.
I feel truly blessed by the friendships that we have formed through sharing our love of music with others and by contributing something back to honour the professionalism and dedication of musicians to their craft.

Thoughts crowd around me when I try to speak of love
Can I capture how I feel in simple rhyme
but when your arms enfold me and I drink in your soul
I feel your warmth and heartbeat close to mine
then I know all is well with the world, then I know all is well.
Sweet honey brown, wrap your arms around me
sweet honey brown, wrap your arms around me
wrap your arms around me.
