Long time, no blog

As usual, I have let time get away from me and have let this web page go. Here's my usual update.

1. gimikk is taking off like crazy! We three performances this weekend and a new cd coming out (finally) next month.

2. I'm gettin schooled! I'll be going to school this fall at Simpson College in Indianola to get my teaching and music degree.

3. Drum Off '10 is right around the corner so I'm workin my but off to get ready for that.

Please make an effort to come out to see me playing with any one of the awesome groups I'll be playing with in the near future. I'll post the show dates and times on here.

The summer is winding down and other notables

Well guys, it's been a great summer and as we head into the fall months, I just wanted to look back at what I did and what look ahead at what's coming up. Obviously, numero uno on my list of things that happened this year was hooking up with Gimikk. I couldn't have asked for a better group of guys to play music with. We've really had a blast playing all over Iowa this summer. Some of the highlights include two really great shows at The Chrome Horse in Cedar Rapids, Palmer Fest in Palmer, Iowa, and most recently, bringing the house down at the Iowa State Fair. I also got to play with a couple of other really great musicians. The Bash on the Farm with David Bush was a really neat experience and playing with the Java Jews was just fun all around. So what's coming up? Well Gimikk still has a couple of shows to finish out the year including Waukee's fall fest, Volume in Cedar Rapids, and Huxley's End of Summer Bash. We'll also make a couple of appearances here and there but for the most part we'll be cutting back on the shows because.....(drum roll please)...This winter, we'll be heading back into the studio to record our new cd!! We've already laid out the groundwork for about half of the songs and have even started playing one of them at our shows.(Serena's Encore) We're hoping to have all the recording done and get some photo shoots in so that we can have it out to the public when Spring rolls around again. In my opinion, this cd will blow Kindred Puppet away by a mile. We're really come together as a group to write these songs and it shows. On a side note, I'll be competing once again in Guitar Center's Drum Off. The 2009 vesion will kick off the last week of September. The first preliminary round will be Thursday, Sept. 24th. I will be playing in the second prelim on Thursday Oct. 1st. It will again be held at the Guitar Center in West Des Moines off of University Ave. That's all for now. Keep checking back for updates on where I'll be playing. Till then.

Just an Update

I've done some really great shows lately both with my band Gimikk and also with a few of my good friends. Last weekend I played with David Bush at Bash on the Farm in Garner, IA. It was great to play at an event like that with so many people there. The night before, even though it was forced inside by rain, Gimikk's performance at Clive after Five was awesome. This past weekend was quite an adventure as well. Rain once again forced Gimikk to move the party. This time it was Friday after Five in Oskaloosa, IA. After sitting around and trying to wait out the downpour, they finally called it off. Of course, that's when the rain stopped. So the organizers were able to find us a spot at the local golf and country club which was hosting a class reunion. It was still fun though. Saturday was probably the most interresting gig I've ever played. I had the pleasure of playing with and old family friend in his band, The Java Jews. They play Jewish Klesmer (spelling?) Music. Just think of it as the soundtrack for Fiddler on the Roof meets the circus. It was a total blast plus I got to play with some fantastic musicians from all across the state including the head of the music department at the University of Iowa. This week I'm taking the week off to spend some time with my family but I'll be right back at it the week after. I've got some great shows coming up including The Meskwaki Casino on the 4th of July, RAGBRAI, Court Ave., and The Iowa State Fair. Keep checking back here to get all the details.

Great Shows So Far

Well, it's been almost two months since my first show with Gimikk and it's a wild ride! we've played at some great venues and had some really great crowds. I'd say the best venue we've played in so far would have to be The Chrome Horse in Cedar Rapids. Don't get me wrong, playing at People's on Court was really great and getting to play at Chad's birthday bash at Sudsucker's was fun, but there was something about the crowd and the way the stage was set up. Maybe it was the fact that people were able to be on all sides of the stage had something to do with it. I swear I must hit at least three people with a drumstick that night because they were trying to get pics from behind the stage. We have some really exciting shows coming up in the next few weeks though. I call this our "Summer Outdoor Concert Series". We'll be playing at Riverview Park and in Huxley this weekend, Clive After Five on the 12th, Friday after Five on the 19th, amongst other great shows all over the state. I've been really happy to play with these guys. They are all extremely talented and a lot of fun to be around. Please, if you get the chance to come see us play, I promise you it will be well worth it. That's all for now.

My First Show with Gimikk!

Last night was great. I got to meet alot of great people, hear some great bands, and put on a hell of a show. The night opened with The League, a three peice rock band that had some really great originals as well as some good covers. Then Damn the Torpedoes did a set including some of Tom Petty's greatest hits. Then we hit the stage a did a great hour and a half set including some of our originals (never what they seem, bloodstained contract, and ravens song). The ended with a great set by the southern rock band Douglas Acres. It was a great concert for an even greater cause. For the most part my first show was mistake free. It was definately a work out. At the end of the hour and a half set, I was drained. I was told that I should look forward to three or four hour sets. I still have some work to do but I think that this is gonna be a great band.

Announcing a new project for Josh Tilton!

Josh has recently teamed up with The Des Moines Boyz member Young BA to create a new group that will hope to be doing shows as soon as May '09. The new band, whose members have yet to be finalized and still does not have a name set in stone, will combine elements of rap, hip hop, r&b, and rock (ala Linkin Park and Jay Z) will begin rehearsing soon with the goal of recording a cd and releasing it sometime around the end of '09- beginning of '10. There are possibilities, however, of the band backing up young BA at some shows in support of his yet to be named solo album. Tentative dates include opening up a show at the Vaudeville Mews on May 28th but that, again, is not finalized. Josh will continue to play with Brandon Kade and the Barn Wreckers as long as his schedule, which also includes teaching privately, playing at various events around town, and the possibility of heading up the percussion program at a local high school this fall, works out. As more details are released, we will post updates right here on Reverbnation.

New Brandon Kade and the Barn Wreckers shows announced!

Josh will be appearing with his band, Brandon Kade and the Barn Wreckers, at the Prarie Meadows Finish Line Show Lounge. Go to the shows link to see details on dates and times.

EcoHeartland Documentary

Back in June, during a Sunday night jam session with local band VooDoo3, two directors were filming the music to be later featured in their documentary,EcoHeartland. While the film is still in post production the clips of Josh jamming with the band is now being featured in the latest blog on the film's website. We'll try to get the clips on here, but for now here's the link. www.ecoheartland.com
