Summer 2011

It really is amazing how one day can change everything. 5 months ago I decided to change my genre in music from rock to country. Turned out to be the best thing I've ever done in my music career. The summer of 2011 has been an excellent summer; I've had the privilege of playing with some of the best performing acts in the country. Aaron Pritchett, Jason McCoy & Dean Brody. The Aaron Pritchett & Jason McCoy shows were my introduction to Country music. Both shows were great for me to get a feel for what country was going to be like.

On July 30th, Brandon Scott debuted for the first time at the Tweed Stampede & Dodge Rodeo Tour. We were the opening band for Dean Brody. It is a day I will never forget. I remember standing on the side of the stage watching the guys in the band setup their gear. I remember looking out across the crowd and thinking “What am I doing?”.. lol. The entire day to that point had been full of excitement and worry. I felt like my entire country career hung in the balance of the outcome of that show. Talk about pressure. My newly signed management team, Heather Ostertag & Associates, were coming to take in the show. Oh and they were bringing a film crew as well to record the show. All these thoughts started running through my head, as I watched my band set up. I turned to Randy Arnold and said " what's my first line?". He laughed, and told me what it was. Then it was time, and the stage was set. I heard my name come over the P.A system, and instantly my mind changed and came into focus. I walked out onto the stage, joined my band mates, took one long look at the 1000's in attendance, and away we went. It was as though something came over me, to tell me that this was my night.

The right time, the right place, and with the right people behind me.

Country Music was welcoming me with open arms! The show was amazing and the audience was outstanding. It was a great first show, and definitely would be one that would always be remembered. On August 13th, was our next big gig. It was a contest for the Havelock Idol. 15 bands competed that day for the top prize of playing at the Havelock Jamboree on August 21st. The contest was to have all bands play three songs in the first round. After the first round the judges would decide which 7 bands would carry on to the finals, held later that evening. There was an amazing display of talent, from all 15 bands that competed. We were one of the 7 chosen to go on to the finals.

During the final round it was more of a show. The judges wanted to see what all participants could do with more time. We were called 2nd to perform in the finals. I took to the stage in very much the same way as I did in Tweed; to pit my mark in Country Music. We played an energetic set, with lots of crowd interaction, and it was another great set for the band. The time came for the results, and The Brandon Scott Band received third place. I was extremely happy with the results. Out of the hundreds of bands that sent in CDs, and then narrowed down to 15, then the top 7, and to end up 3 out of all those bands, it was quite a feat for us. At this point we had only been together for one month, so we were all ecstatic!

It seems that every day something new is popping up. Currently we are writing and demoing for our up and coming CD. Life in a studio is a fun thing; it is a great time to experiment and try new things.

It really is crazy to think that one day, then a couple hours of my life on stage , has changed everything I've known to this point. The future is looking real good.
