In the new Lyrical Challenge, that is! http://www.thelyricalchallenge.com/vote-for-songs.html The Lyrical Challenge is a website where lyricists submit their lyrics, which are then voted on by the public. The winning lyrics are posted for musicians to make them into songs. I won the last one, and need some more votes for this one - where there may actually be a prize! No need to download an app or register or anthing, so please go to the site and vote for my entry.
The sun is trying its best to shine through the clouds! "Good Day Sunshine" "Here Comes The Sun" "Sun King" Might we hear any of these songs tonight at the All You Need IS Love benefit at the Me & Thee Coffeehouse/UUCM in Marblehead? Come and find out!
My new Open Mics at Back to the Boathouse in Dracut have been rocking! Thanks to everyone who has been coming. Last night we had 13 soloists or bands, including a few new folks. Everyone who got there early and wanted to, got to do a second round of 2 songs, then we had two duos who were late arrivals do 4 songs each. See you on June 18 for the next open mic!
Due to a late schedule change, I will be hosting the Open Mic at Back to the Boatyard in Dracut tonight, May 7, not next week. Hope you can make it!
I'll be hosting a new Open Mic at Back to the Boathouse, Dracut, MA Wednesday April 9 and 23, 7-11. This is an open mic, not a jam - no amps or drum kits, please. First signed-up, first to play, 3 song minimum. Bring your instrument, voice, friends and family!
I won the Lyrical Challenge contest - my music and playing using the lyric winner's lyrics. See it here: http://www.thelyricalchallenge.com/ No prizes, but as one of my fellow songwriters said the other day, now you can say you are a 'songwriting contest winner'!
The link below is a website that (for free) every few months has first a lyric challenge - people are encouraged to submit song lyrics, then website viewers vote, and the winner's lyrics are then posted for people to craft a song with them. This is the second one I've entered, there's no prize at this point, but its fun and a learning experience writing to someone else's lyrics.
The little thumbnail versions they show on the page do not synch very well, go to the full version on youtube for better synching. Vote for my version (the 3rd one), please! These lyrics were very hard to write a smooth rhythm to- some lines were very long, some short.
Had a blast yesterday taping some songs to be broadcast on local cable in a few weeks. 'Local Music Unplugged' hosted by Christine & Stan's Rendezvous (Burlington, MA). Just completed and submitted a song for the next Lyrical Challenge song contest. Stay tuned for links to all!
50 years ago to this day, February 9, 1964, a 7-year-old living in the Eastern Townships of Quebec heard something that would forever leave its impression on him when Ed Sullivan announced "Ladies and Gentlemen…The Beatles!” and Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr started playing to a screaming audience. While my parents and grandparents exclaimed about their 'long hair' and the 'loud noise' that 7-year-old (me) decided that one day he'd be playing rock and roll, too. My song '50 Years Ago' is a tribute to that evening and the events that shaped our world in the winter of 63/64. Video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3zgpJPBJUA
It's been a good year with my 2nd album released in August - Peace Freedom Sanity Serenity - and many live appearances in the area. Working on a whole bunch of new songs for the next album! You've still got time to order PFSS from Amazon and get it delivered for Christmas as a present for that special someone! http://tinyurl.com/mikebirchmusic-freedom
