Wow, what a summer it has been for 5th GEAR. From our first outdoor show of the year last May at the Big Cat Car Show in Rock Springs to festivals in Cottage Grove, Deerfield, Arlington, Poynette, Waupun, Fond du Lac and other towns. Plus the huge show at Cadott Country Fest with headliners Florida Georgia Line and Brad Paisley and right on through to this past Saturday evening when we reprised our Monroe Concerts on the Square show by playing the Minhas Brewery stage at the Monroe Cheese Days Celebration, we have had an exciting and thoroughly satisfying summer. We hope you guys had as much fun with it all as we did, and we promise you there are even better things to come in summer 2015.
It's noon Sunday and we are just now getting to the website. Big show at Cardinal Lanes in Brodhead last night. We got home around 3:30 a.m. and, after some eggs and toast, hit the rack at about four. 5 hours of sleep and 6 cups of coffee later and here we are, ready to face the day! We sure had some fun last night though. Because so many Gearheads turned out for the show, and they were all in party mode, Cardinal Lanes manager Jack said we'll have to come back this fall. Just check out the pics on our PHOTOS page to see some of the Rockin' Country Party that took place last night! Hey Barb and Carissa - thanks for buying 5th GEAR tee shirts - you are now representing Gearheads everywhere, so wear them proudly! Cardinal Lanes bartenders Lisa and Brandon took care of everyone all night, and there is no doubt that Brodhead does it up right - just ask Ruth, Dee, Joe and Pam, who partied hearty from beginning to end. We had a great time with all of you, and can't wait to go back. 5th GEAR sincerely thanks everyone who came out last night!!
What town is currently the hotbed for producing new Gearheads? Well, if we had to guess, based on attendance at our most recent shows, including last night at the Club Tavern in Middleton, it would have to be Verona. Once again last night we made friends with a new gang of Gearheads from that Madison suburb, and they are upholding the Rockin' Country attittude that other Verona Gearheads have previously displayed. Maybe it's in the water, but these gals and their guy-friends just wanna' have fun! They were in the center of the dance floor for most of the evening, and it was full blown, straight ahead, sing along with every song revelry as they energized the crowd and the band - great job ladies! We'd be remiss if we didn't also thank all the Poynette and Sauk Gearheads who trekked down to the Club. Michelle, Pam, Erin, designated driver Jordyn and the rest of the Poynette crowd were right there with our Verona fans, rocking and dancing and shaking it - it was very cool! We asked in our last blog for everyone to come out and "pack the Club", and you guys responded in a big way. Thanks to everybody who made last night such a great time!
Now if we can get you Gearheads down to Brodhead next Saturday night, we'll really have it goin' on. Cardinal Lanes is a fun club with great people and a party atmosphere second to none. If you're free and looking for some real fun, you owe it to yourself to come down - it's going to be a great party! Our last show here was a blast and we met a lot of very nice people. We expect they'll all be back in force with even more of their friends, so join us at Cardinal Lanes for a fun, fun evening! On another subject, this week was interesting as we received agent inquiries in phone calls from both Iowa City and Nashville. Nothing earth-shattering, they were just checking on us to see what we're about, but rest assured we'll let you know if anything noteworthy arises. Alright Gearheads - pull hard, pull strong, pull together and pull for the little guy - we'll see you in Brodhead!
Good morning Gearheads! We are back from our show at Riverside Casino & Golf Resort in Riverside, Iowa, and what a fabulous weekend it was! Friday night's show was a blast, but Saturday was the highlight as John Michael Montgomery and his band opened the night with a 1-1/2 hour set that really revved up the crowd. John has had 38 Top Ten hits, and he played about 2 dozen of them over the 90 minutes. Immediately after his set he posed backstage with us for the photo seen above. John is one of the friendliest, most personable guys you are ever going to meet. He said "Now that we've done a show together, when I come back to Wisconsin we are going to have to get together and have a beer!" We chatted for about 5 minutes before he had to head to the bus and get ready to pack it off to the next show. He is a true country gentleman, and we were honored to share the venue with this legendary Nashville icon. We've posted photos from his set, as well as ours, on our PHOTOS page. We have to send a shout out to Gearheads Kris & Laura, who traveled down from Wisconsin for the Saturday night show. It's a 3 hour and 15 minute drive to Riverside, so these two showed some real Gearhead moxie by making the trip. Way to go ladies! We also want to thank Rich Bentler, Riverside Casino Entertainment manager, and his sound man Ed. These guys did a great job helping us with the show, and they were much appreciated by the band. It was a long trip down to Riverside, but totally worth the time and travel. We had a great show and are looking forward to going back. With a full dance floor both nights, we made lots of new friends, and spoke with several people who would like to book us in Iowa City and beyond. This Saturday night we'll be back in the Madison area at Tricia's Country Corners. It's a historic Madison venue and we're looking forward to a great show, so join us! Alright Gearheads, we'll wrap this up. Work hard and rest easy - we'll see you Saturday night at the Corners!
We suppose a few folks stayed home Saturday night to watch basketball. Those who did missed some real March Madness at the Hody Bar & Grill in Middleton as a huge crowd of Gearheads revved up the dance floor all night long. If you were there, you heard us congratulate faithful Gearheads Kevin and Bethany on appearing front and center at every 5th GEAR show since they first discovered the band at the Club Tavern. These two are putting new meaning to the term "Gearhead Faithful"! It was great to see them again last night, and we can say with near certainty that first time Gearheads Mark and Linda as part of the "Gang of Six" from Middleton will be spotted at more than a few upcoming shows as well. Hey Mark, can we get a "Heck Yeah"? It was a great crowd, including Bob and Sonja Bakken, who also caught the show for the first time and are planning to return as well. To all these new Gearheads, and the many, many others last night who pledged allegiance to the band we extend a huge thank you, and an invitation to keep it going at our upcoming shows. We hope to return to the Hody soon!
Just when we thought nothing could top the turnout at last weekend's Hooker's Resort show, we roll into an absolute firestorm at Sugar River Lanes last night! Got to hand it to the fine folks of Belleville, you guys absolutely rock with a passion! Bar manager Sue, along with staffers Matt, Sam, Jeff, & Sherry, to name a few of the hardworking folks present last night, insisted that this was the best crowd they have seen in a long, long time. We didn't think anything could top last week, but with row upon row of Gearheads standing right in front of the band singing along and busting moves to every song we just couldn't help grinning - what a fantastic crowd - the place was absolutely packed to the walls! The staff said they actually ran out of several brands of your favorite beverages, proof it was a full blown Rockin' Country party. Great, great fun and very humbling for us to be able to perform for such a fun crowd. When we said last night that we love you guys, we certainly meant every word and we can't wait to get back to Belleville. Last night was our first show at Sugar River Lanes, and we know if it started out this well, it's only going to get better - MUCH better. To all you new Gearheads who told us last night that you will now be following us to every show, our profound thanks - without you folks we couldn't do any of this, so keep coming out to the shows and bring every friend you can pack into the pickup!
