Music and its discontents

Surprisingly enough, I've been thinking lately about the struggle people face in this country with regard to getting their music heard/into the marketplace. I've come to the conclusion that more people would get out there and be heard if people could be bothered to promote/pass it on. Why should others bother? Well, they don't necessarily have to but generally people who are into rock/metal piss and moan about all the X Factor clones clogging up the airwaves yet do nothing to promote grass roots/homegrown music. I think metal/rock fans are cynical - we approach any new music with an "impress me" attitude and in this country the culture of begrudgery ensure you'll endure a healthy dose of apathy. It's a romantic notion I suppose. Fans of a minority based style of music band together and help bypass the corporate structures to get it to the ears of many. Maybe some kinds of music are not meant for everyone....who knows? I suppose this note was inspired by seeing alot of good young bands in this area fade away because there isn't really anywhere to go. What do you think?

I completely agree. It seems to be the nature of the people in this country that is stopping our music from growing. Along with everything you have said about the "impress me" attitude of people i think there is another factor which is the "i could do better" attitude. I have to admit i was guilty of this when i was younger but a bit of maturity and some honest self reflection sorts this out. Once you see the effort that goes into the music it changes your opinion quite quick. Maybe this is where the average Irish person (the non musical) cant progress. A band needs to have an impressive reputation first before they are even given a chance. As far as bands go its the "one up" attitude. "Why should i share their link they they havn't liked me yet". This kills me if the bands don't support each other how is anyone on the outside supposed to. I know there are plenty of bands with the right mentality out there but it needs to be more widespread. Bands have to help each other first to get off the ground.

I'm not a person who likes to talk or mentally dissect music (especially my own). It is what it is and I suppose that may be my general reason for being apathetic towards this site and promotion in general.

I don't know if experimental or unusual music has much of place out there with the collective but I do enjoy crossing into that mindset and pushing my own boundaries.

I have decided to spend a bit more time on here sharing and maybe even opining with anyone who's interested about different facets of music. I will also be uploading new tunes from all three projects. Who knows? Maybe one or two people out there will connect with what I'm communicating...

Please enjoy what I have to offer here.
