This week brings Djembesnjazz at the Arts Park in Hollywood Florida. April 26, 2009, from 4:00 to 6:00pm. The weather forecast for that day is Partly Cloudy High 80°F Low 74°F Precip 0 %. No precip in sight. The jazz band is the featured headliner. We will do some standard jazz tunes contemporary and pop(the pop done with a sprinkle of jazz of course). I have an original piece inspired by Sly and the Family Stone fittingly called Family. Check back for more blogs on this event.
This month finds the cultural component of the group at Barry University. We will open for the Archipelago Spring Dance Concert(try saying that ten times fast). This all takes place inside the Broad Auditorium 11300 NE 2nd Ave Miami Fl 33161. We go on at 7:00pm March 20-21. This is a free event an open to the public. The following Monday, March 23rd we will perform at a birthday party on South Beach. The party is for George T. Neary. He is considered by some as big Whig in the Arts community. Whoop-tee-do, I know, the point here is he's one on the Who's Who on Miami Beach. This event will take place at the Hotel Astor Mansion d Azur, 956 Washington Avenue. Write back for more details.

Black History Month is in full swing at Florida International University South Campus this Monday (February 2) @ 3:00pm. The Grahman Bldg(the pit)We will play for one hour as a part of the Pan African Celebration..
This week(Saturday January 24th and Sunday January 25th)we will play for Fairchild Tropical Botanical Garden. This event will mix the cultural band with the jazz band. We will have a keyboardist, djembe and two vocalist. Imagine the sounds of Take Five, One Note Samba and My Favorite Things performed from a cultural perspective. All in the natural environment of tropical plants and sunny weather. You are there surrounded by chocolate from all over the world. Ghanaian chocolate, Ecuadorian chocolate, Brazilian chocolate just name a few. Don't miss this experience. Stop by the stage and greet the band.
We start up our new year performing at the 3rd Annual International Chocolate Festival in the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. We will perform both days of this event January 24 & 25th. Check back on the website Reverbnation for the exact time. During that same weekend Djembesnjazz will play at the ArtsPark in Hollywood Fl. This performance will feature the jazz band component of the group. Then we proceed to Florida International University(South Campus) for the Pan-African Celebration. This is an event that celebrates the common identity of people of African decent from all over the world. It takes place February 2 2009@ 3:00pm in the University Common.. In that same week we travel to Nova Southeastern University for their Black History Month observence. This event centers around the theme Exploring the Riches of Africa. Our performance is from 6:15 to 9:00. This event will be nice, they will have free appertizers and the visual art is great. From there we go to the Tamarac Community Center for their observence of Black History Month. That's Wenesday February 11th at 6:00pm. This week(June 30-July 4th)the jazz band component of the group will be playing at Hadley Park, for my old school peeps(Manor Park). City of Miami along with 99 JAMZ and the community. 4th of July Family Fest. We'll be stirring up some old memories with tunes from Earth Wind & Fire(Runnin and I Wanna be with you). Remember that tune by Barry White (Look At Her), look it up on Real Player and listen, we will be playing that tune. Maybe I'll bring back some youtube type video and pics.
